“Not a bad wee hotel”
Reviewed 24 June 2012

Nice wee hotel. Modern decor & friendly receptionist. Not that handy to the centre, we had quite a walk to find it but it turned out to be a short taxi drive from Scotstoun where we were headed.
We found a gem in kelvingrove park right on the doorstep although there was a little noise from a nearby club late evening.

I stayed in this hotel at Christmas time while visiting friends in Glasgow. Location is perfect, west side of the city-centre, walking distance along the main road from the bars, restaurants and clubs but in a nice part of the city and quiet. Staff were friendly. The only thing was when we got to our room the door was open - I believe the housekeeper left it open as a reminder to herself that she was missing one towel. Not vital though and as the hotel was impressive on the other counts it would not prevent me recommending it or coming back.

This small hotel is convenient to much of what a tourist would want to see in Glasgow. It is an old converted house - rooms are 1 and 2 flights above the street level (no elevator). Breakfast is simple but fine. Owner/manager is very helpful. We had no trouble finding parking directly across from the hotel. (There are doctors' offices there, so few cars at night.)
The hotel is very reasonable priced. I would certainly not hesitate to stay there again, although it is not a fancy or grand place.

Room Tip: If you don't like stairs, ask to be on the first floor - otherwise you are 55 steps above street...

If this hotel was not in a positive way that natively, you would probably call it a boutique hotel. It is kept by a very nice man that lives in it and cares about it a lot. This makes it very personal and you really feel that this is not a big hotel of thousands of big hotel brands, but a hotel someone cares about. We had a room with a beautiful view on the park and the probably old church in it, with cosy chairs and a very new bathroom. And it was not even that expensive at all. Though it takes you 20 minutes to walk to the city, this hotel is totally worth it, and will probably become more expensive in future.

Room Tip: If you can, try to choose a window with view on the park

I chose this hotel as it was walking distance from my son's lodgings. This hotel describes itself as an upmarket 4 star Boutique Hotel - please do not be misled - it is nothing of the sort - it is corporate, bland overpriced and very understaffed. The decor lacks personality. The room was adequate but nothing special and lacked the touches that make a hotel 4 star. I stayed two nights Friday/Saturday - the first night I discovered that my room was above a noisy youth club - pounding disco music late at night is not my idea of peaceful - for my second night the manager moved me to another room. However the youth club using the basement of adjoining premises running under the hotel was still a nuisance. The breakfast is unimaginative and very poor quality - no continental option - no fresh fruit etc. To put my review in context on this trip combining business and pleasure I stayed 4 nights in 2 hotels: the other one cost £70 for 2 nights and provided a good imaginative breakfast plus newspapers to read, the Acorn cost £132 for 2 nights ......
