Although I have never had anything to eat in the restaurant I was put off completely when I saw dogs in the restaurant while people were eating.

Had our second visit for food here. First visit was for a breakfast and both our choices were very tasty and served lovely and hot. My tea was served in a lovely tea pot and was made with fresh loose tea. My husband ranted about how good his fresh coffee was.
One thing we did notice however, was that a member of staff was cutting up traybakes and putting them onto serving dishes without using gloves.
The second visit was for lunch and this was also very tasty and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The staff are attentive, efficient and polite and we could not fault the service. We will return to this restaurant again even if it is a bit pricey.

Second visit here. The first time we were seated in the main restaurant, this time we were in the bar / coffee area at the front door as it was Easter and very busy. From this position , you can see a lot more of what is going on.
No complaints with the food again ( although still a wee bit expensive), it was the layout of the restaurant and staff hygiene that was of concern.

Firstly the storage position of cups and saucers, tea pots, cake plates, cakes ( although cakes were under covers) etc, right at the entrance door was very concerning. It was raining and miserable outside and several guests had brought their dogs with them into the restaurant. Some larger ones were shaking their wet coat, spraying and sniffing all over the cups, plates etc !! When the main door opens, it allows the wind and all the dust and elements to come in and cover the items !

Secondly, we ordered tea ( not having noticed the dog problem yet ), when it arrived both cups were severely tea stained and in need of a good scrub by hand.
I complained to the waitress about them and asked if she could please replace them ?After commenting "it's only tea stains, there's nothing I can do" !! she took my cup over to this open cup store and had a look around the others for a clean one. Whilst doing so, she was on her hunkers and the tea towel that she had been using ( all week by the looks of it ! ) during her work and which she had tucked in her rear belt loop, was now trailing on the entrance rug !! She then used this tea towel to try to rub the tea stain off the dry cup !!!!!!!!!!!! When she returned and I said that I didn't want that cup because of what she'd done, she seemed bemused !

We witnessed some other actions of poor hygiene whilst there ( the method of cleaning of tables for one ) which really surprised us. It's the kind of thing you would have seen 40 years ago before modern basic hygiene training and certificates were introduced. - Have they got any ?

If this is what the staff do right in front of you ................ then ??!!!

This cafe/restaurant is a great place to visit after a walk around one of the many rural footpaths in the locality. You can just have coffee and cake or go for a full meal. There is ample outside seating for sunny days.
