To say the Pineapple is unique is an understatement - it’s like staying in your own stately home! It is the most unusual place I have ever stayed and whilst it has some drawbacks they are more than offset by the feeling of staying in a piece of history.
It is self catering accommodation and is split into two parts – a kitchen and living area & then on the other side of the Pineapple is the bedrooms (double and twin) and bathroom.
The Pineapple itself is fascinating – that someone bothered to build something so architecturally stunning for pure entertainment value is remarkable. Its also really interesting from a horticultural perspective too – the building was designed to be a hothouse for growing pineapples in the heart of Scotland!
Both parts, whilst not lavish, have a huge amount of period charm and are very tastefully decorated. The kitchen is well appointed and spotless. The living area is spacious and the log fire is perfect to snuggle up in front of. There is no TV & Radio but, if like us, you wanted a weekend cut off from the stress and distractions of the outside world this is ideal. It was a cold and miserable weekend and we just holed up, read books and had a long leisurely family meal - perfect.
The sleeping accommodation is also lovely – if a little chilly (well it was minus 5 outside) but that was nothing the fan heater couldn’t fix. It is a little bit weird having to walk outside to get from one bit to the other (torches are essential as you are in the middle of nowhere!) but you quickly get used to it and its all part of the quirky charm.
The surrounding area is perfect for walking – both serious walking and also more sedate Sunday afternoon strolls! The local village is nothing amazing but you are only 10mins from Stirling with its excellent attractions and shops.
I would definitely recommend this place to people who are bored of hotels and fancy something completely different!
