We booked a table for 5pm, due to other commitments, last night. The service was excellent and the staff were attentive. The tables started to fill up as the evening went on. Our food was excellent. We had scallops, crab cakes and the prawn cocktail which had a little surprise of flavour at the bottom. I had the duck breast which was cooked to perfection and the potatoes moreish. My dining companions both had the sirloin steak which were also cooked to perfection. We can all highly recommend the coffee and caramel pana cotta and the chocolate mousse. There was nothing left on our plates. Great food, company and service.

Nice meals and good value, friendly staff and fast service. A bit hidden from the main Royal mile, but quite close to it, this restaurant offer a quiet spot with a very good menu and quality food with low price.

We tried to walk in on Sat night but they were fully booked. Next day we stopped by early afternoon and made a reservation for 7pm Sun night. It wasn't too busy when we arrived but that soon changed when a party of 14 arrived. The staff were attentive to us and brought my nip of single malt and our bottle of white Portuguese wine, sparkling water and appetizers in good time. My husband ordered an app of smoked salmon and a main of fish pie and I had crab cakes and chicken with artichokes and mushrooms. All of our dishes were generous and tasty. To top it off, we HAD to have sticky toffee pudding.....delicious!!!

This is a bright, airy, clean and quiet restaurant. A refreshing change from going to a dark, crowded, noisy pub for dinner. Great place to go if you want to converse with your dinner companions. Tried the "hot shellfish platter" - excellent. "Sticky toffee pudding" very good as well. Service was prompt but not rushed. I had the impression that the staff actually cared about what they were serving. Nice touch.
I would eat here again if back in Edinburgh.

This place is nothing more that a tourist trap. We stopped by one evening for a light meal and drinks. The place was nearly empty, yet they asked if we had a reservation. Unfortunately for us, they found us a table. We noticed that everything was a la carte, including the bread. We settled for wine and appetizers. We ordered the vegetable chips, grilled king scallops with salsa verde, , bread, and the crab cakes. The first to arrive was the bowl of vegetable chips. It was only a bowl of crumbs. The waitress confirmed that it was from the bottom of the bag of a commercially prepared chips. The grilled "king" scallops were very tiny, dry, and tasteless. From the lack of taste, they were probably wet scallops. The crab cakes were nothing but fried bread. There was no discernible crab taste or texture. I have had salsa verde many times before, and the green stuff it was served with was not, in any shape or form, salsa verde. Even the bread was terribly stale. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TOURIST TRAP!!
