Food, wine and service all first class. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, not at all stuffy.
As my wife is pregnant, the tasting menu was adapted to ensure she could eat everything. This was done without fuss which as a result really made her feel comfortable that everything put in front of her was fine to eat.
The food itself was fantastic and obviously very fresh, we even got to meet our lobster before he was put in the pot! The staff were all very knowledgable and able to give details of what we were eating, where it was sourced and why the chosen wine matched the food so well.
In my opinion, The Kitchin along with Restaurant Martin Wishart are the stand out restaurants in the Leith area and both are well worth a visit when in the Edinburgh area.

My friend and I had lunch in the Kitchin last week and it absolutely exceeded expectations - we were expecting delicious food, but thought that the service was also exceptional.
Tom Kitchin greeted many of the diners and it was the personal touches that transformed a fantastic meal into a memorable experience. The maitre d', the sommelier and the waiting staff were absolutely spot on and the food, well what can I say - each mouthful was an explosion of sublime tastes and textures which were complimented by the wine which was selected by the sommelier (who described them perfectly). Value for money at approx £50 pp for lunch and will definitely be back - no wonder you have to book 6 months in advance if you want to dine on a Friday or Saturday night .... mind you - it's well worth the wait.

On 24th July had the 3 course set lunch with matching wines. The food was delicious, although having been to a number of prestigious restaurants in Edinburgh I would say the food was similar (perhaps expected more from a Michelin star?) but still delicious and have no complaints!
The service was impeccable. There was not one single way the staff could have made our visit any better- attentive without being in-your-face, polite and friendly. The sommelier and head waitress in particular knew their products inside out and gave excellent explanations of wine choices etc. The food was enjoyable but not necessarily an immediate pull to revist the restaurant however the service and friendly atmosphere definitely was. We will undoubtedly be back.

We were there for lunch, and for 7 pounds we had the most fantastic lunch- starters were just great and main cours good enough. Can't imagine that somewhere else we could eat better for as less as 7 pounds! Thank you!

We visited The Kitchin as a belated birthday treat. We decided to go for the tasting menu with wine and when offered the chance to upgrade to the freshly caught lobster (£15 per person extra) decided to really push the boat out. The food was excellent and the lobster was worth it - devine. When we were sitting in the bar, having our tea/coffee, Tom Kitchin came and said 'hello' which I thought was a nice touch. It is expensive (we were just less than £300 for two) but worth it for a special occassion.
