Owner description: These walks are designed by best selling historical author and award winning novelist J A Henderson. "The best of Edinburgh’s ghost tours" – Lonely Planet Guide. Combining history, humour and horror, the walk ends inside the Covenanter’s Prison in a locked section of a 16th century cemetery. This is the lair of the "McKenzie Poltergeist," the best-documented paranormal case in history. "Puts the city's other ghost tours in the shade"- Edinburgh Evening News

“Interesting and entertaining, but a bunch of hokem”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2012

We took the tour to Greyfriars Kirkyard, which is allegedly haunted by the terrifying and violent Mackenzie Poltergeist. Our guide, who was a fantastic story teller, repeated again and again that this isn't for the feint of heart. He told us there has been over 4000 documented attacks by the ghost and warned us it might happen on this tour. After a few interesting facts about the kirkyard and Bobby, the dog who spent 14 years perched on his master's grave, we finally entered the lair of the Mackenzie Poltergeist. Again, more warnings. More dire predictions. Blah, blah, blah. We spent a total of 15 minutes in the chained off area hearing more about attacks and such to the point where you couldn't help but be frightened that something is going to happen...and it does. Another tour guide jumps out at you in a mask to give you a fright. The denouement of the tour. It is over. You can go now.

“Underground City tour - just FANTASTIC!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2012

So much better than expected...a brilliant mix of comedy and history, our guide Jamie was out of this world. He showed great passion for Edinburgh's past and is a master story teller. Only this man could portray the deep dark emotion tied to this segment of Scotland's history. Recommend asking for Jamie by name.

“City of the Dead comes to Life!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2012

Myself and 4 other family members attended the Double Dead 10pm tour. Our guide’s name was Jerry and I would like to say how thoroughly enjoyable the tour was, not least due to Jerry’s enthusiasm and zest for storytelling. The experience was fun, informative and exceptionally well led. I would recommend this tour to anyone - especially after dark!

“Flamboyance and Fantastic Fiction!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2012

Just did the Underground City tour - brilliant, fantastic, cannot praise it enough, mainly because of the fabulous Gerry the guide. I loved his look, style and crazy storytelling ability - he looks like he's enjoying himself and it really makes you listen! Gerry was just perfect for this tour, and I'm speaking as a tour guide myself who does historic tours elsewhere! A great mix of the folklore, fiction and the facts. Be prepared for anything! Much better that there was no 'jumper ooter', and it was the expectation of fear that made the tour all the more exciting. I'll be back again with my friends this time. Thank you Gerry, and CotD Tours!!
