Four friends, we stayed here for two nights for the Edinburgh Festival. The owners could not do enough for us, looking after our luggage when we arrived and when we left, calling us a taxi and giving us a cup of tea while we waited for it, long after we had checked out. The rooms were cleaned both days and the breakfasts were delicious. As for the distance to town, we saw plenty of buses (we walked in). A taxi back, even well after midnight, was very cheap. Would definitely recommend this place.

The Aonach Mor was the starting and ending accommodation of our (me and my girlfriend) trip around Scotland. It set our future B&B standards pretty high. We had a great stay there. Jennifer and Calum are wonderful hosts. They were very helpful and made you feel right at home. We had a lot of laughs together and they felt like our friends! The room we stayed in (the Jacobean suite) was very charming and beautiful. The en-suite bathroom was in impeccable condition. It was very modern and even had a nice steam room to relax in after a long day of sightseeing. Like everything else, breakfast was wonderful as well. There were a lot of different breakfast options. Picking one each day turned out to be quite a tough decision since everything was so good!

Thank you Jennifer and Calum for the very nice stay. We will definitely come back!

We flew into Edinburgh at 8 am in the morning, we dropped off our luggagaes which were stored and taken into our room later on which was very nice service. Although it is not located in city centre, with perfect public transportation in Edinburgh, taking bus is fun and pleasure to go around the city. Location is not a problem at all! Breakfast was ordered the night before which I think it is brillient idea! It save guest house' budget and guests' time. The pancake and fresh kippers are amazing! Highly recommended! Overall it was great stay!

We stayed at the Aonach Mor on our July 2011 trip to the UK. We picked the Aonach Mor, much like the other hotels on our trip, because it had such high reviews on TripAdvisor. The hotel is quite a distance from the town, so we took a gamble booking this hotel, hoping that the quality of the room would make up for the travel to the city center. Unfortunately, the hotel didn't really live up to expectations: The breakfast was average, but nothing like the pictures on Tripadvisor. The room was clean the first two days, but the second two days, cleaning was not a high priority. The last day, the room was not even cleaned at all. The toilet was unflushed, the towels were left all over the floor, and the wrinkly dirty sheets were stuffed under a comforter that was thrown on the bed.
The hotel was not all bad, however: Jennifer, our host, was very nice and helpful. She called us a taxi and helped us find a laundromat. The building itself is beautiful and the neighborhood is quiet.
In general, the Aonach Mor was okay, but did not live up to its glowing reputation. Maybe this is due to new management? If we make it to Edinburgh again, we will probably stay somewhere else.

AonachMor, Manager at Aonach Mor Guest House, responded to this review, 4 August 2011
Hello,

We're very sorry to hear that your room wasn't serviced properly for the remaining days of your visit and we promise we'll look into this with our staff to ensure it never happens again. This sounds very out of character as our cleaner, Callumn, usually has impeccably high standards and a great report with guests. We thank you for bringing this to our attention.

As for the distance - we're a twenty minute walk into town (based on the average highland man's pace, which tends to be a fairly slow saunter:) or a five minute bus ride from round the corner of our guest house. The area in which we are based is among the most popular in Edinburgh with tourists and highly recommended by Rick Steves' guides along with many others.

We are a little surprised at you finding the breakfast average as it is usually one of the first things people compliment us on on. If we can temp you to stay again you will have to try our kippers, fresh from Loch Fyne on the west coast of Scotland. Smoked in Trabert, they're without a doubt the best around. In fact, all of our meats are reared and farmed in Scotland and cooked with loving consideration.

Kind Regards,

Calum & Jennifer
