This was an awesome apartment. The historic feel of the building made you feel right at home in this perfectly located accommodation. Axel was a huge help from start to finish. This was the first time we had used trip advisor for a booking. Trip Advisors booking system is the best we have seen. Far superior to Air B&B. The apartment was spotless. Whoever Axel has doing his cleaning is a meticulous pro. Axel left is a full loaf of bread, home made jam, bottle of orange juice, butter. All you need to get started when you arrive late. Grey Friars Bobby Pub right next door is a real bonus. The food there was awesome and the atmosphere was old fashioned Scottish pub to keep you in the mood for exploring. You can walk the whole Royal Mile from here. Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood palace. Scottish National Museum is right across the road. Hop on Hop off tour busses are on your door step.
This is one of the best short-term rentals we've ever stayed in, anywhere: well-appointed, well-equipped, clean, cosy (with a fire-place, even). Nice balance of period and contemporary features (the latter include state-of-the-art bathroom and kitchen). Centrally located in Edinburgh (Old Town), with plenty of restaurants and pubs to choose from. Lots of information about where to eat and what to do, and a comprehensive library of Edinburgh guide-books.
This apt is a great choice for Edinburgh. Very well located- a 10 minute walk to the university where we attended a conference, close to restaurants and all the Old Town sites. The apt is very well equipped- great bed, dishwasher, washing machine etc. The owner responds quickly to any questions. And the bus Airlink 300 drops you almost at the door. Not cheap but definitely value for money. Highly recommended.
We have stayed in Edinburgh several times, mostly in self catering apartments and this one beats them all - hands down. From booking through to departure, we couldn't fault this place at all. The owner, Axel, was exceptionally helpful and very prompt answering any questions we had. Clear instructions on how to access the keys were sent a few days before.
Greyfriars Bobby apartment is perfectly located to access all the major attractions and places in Edinburgh together with a great bus route (you can get a day ticket for Lothian buses which gets you on most routes). The National Museum of Scotland is literally opposite and is well worth looking around - be prepared to be there most of the day!
The apartment was spotless, comfortable and very well equipped, also full of character. If you love quirky old buildings with original features, then this is the place for you. The living room has a lovely original Georgian cast iron fireplace which we had lit a couple of times, Axel very kindly left us some peat logs and it was lovely to be able to sit in here on a cold evening after having supper. The kitchen had everything you needed with a dining table too, great if you didn't always want to eat out. We were also left some orange juice, loaf of bread, biscuits, milk and butter by the owner for our arrival which was a very nice gesture. Dishwasher, plenty of pans, plates, freezer - we had everything we needed.
Bed was wonderfully comfy with plenty of space to store clothes and the bathroom has both a bath and shower, so you had the best of both worlds. Just one small suggestion: a bath mat to stand on when you come out of the shower/bath would be great as you don't necessarily want to put your bath towel on the floor. We loved the wonderful original wooden shutters in the living room and our bedroom.
Lots of leaflets in the kitchen and books on Edinburgh which we found very useful, together with some good novels in the living room. WiFi signal is great. There is a very good sandwich bar downstairs which was reasonably prices and sandwiches were superb. The apartment overlooks Greyfriars Kirkyard which is a lovely place to have a mooch around and of course, Bobby's tiny statue stands proudly in front.
For Bobby fans, there is some interesting information in the Museum of Edinburgh with a small section dedicated to him, including his collar and food bowl. It is located towards the end of the Royal Mile at the opposite end to the castle and the history of Edinburgh such as the plans and building of the New Town in Georgian times was very interesting.
There are lots of very nice restaurants just down from the apartment in Grassmarket and further away in the New Town which is only a short hop on a bus. It a shame that Greyfriars Bobby's Bar was closed for refurbishment when we visited but there are plenty of wonderful pubs around the area, including the fascinating Captains Bar, a short walk away in College Street. A pub from the old school!
We will definitely return to this apartment and recommend to others. We are already making plans to return later in the year.
We stayed here for 3 nights, and we were extremely happy with the choice in this accommodation, Before our trip Axel, the owner, was very quick to respond to my questions. The whole process was very efficient. When we arrived, we discovered that the location was fantastic, you could walk to all the major attractions, The Apartment itself had charm and character. Great views and very clean. Everything we needed was there. It is very well equipped with anything you really need. The bed was very comfortable, the kitchen well stocked, the hairdryer very much appreciated, WiFi was fast and without problems, the milk and bread a nice touch. Thank you so much Axel for this perfect hideaway at a very reasonable price. We couldn’t have been happier.
