This is my 2nd visit to the zoo my last one was about 10 years ago when my children were small. I’ll be honest the weather was dreadful and that’s obviously not the zoos fault, but we’d pre-booked tickets (to try and save some money) so we had to visit in the pouring rain. A few of the cages were empty with signs saying the animal was being relocated at the moment. But overall there was a general lack of animals which is really disappointing when we paid almost £50. We spent ages looking in cages etc trying to spot what was supposed to be in there.

Many thanks for your feedback concerning your recent trip to Edinburgh Zoo .

I am sorry to hear you were disappointed by your visit. Edinburgh Zoo does look after over 1000 animals and only a select few enclosures are currently empty as we carry out essential maintenance.

I do appreciate that in rainy weather, the animals sometimes shelter indoors and it can be a little harder to spot them. During poor weather especially, I would recommend attending our fantastic programme of talks and feeds by our knowledgeable keepers. This will offer you the chance to gain some spotting tips and hear from the keepers themselves about our fascinating animals.

We hope to welcome you again soon.

Long time since our previous visit. Still enough time fill a whole day. Also good for a range of ages: 12, 10 and 5. Penguins still a highlight and pandas interesting but more active in the afternoon. Entry took a very long time- not enough staff dealing with payments. Expensive but money is going to a good cause in protecting endangered species. Enjoyed walk to the top of the zoo for amazing views. Youngest also enjoyed the free hatchimals trail. Well worth a good day out.

We are so glad that you had a great day with us.

Our daily talks start at 11am for a welcome and introductory session to Edinburgh and is a great way to find out what is happening throughout the day, such as different talks, activities, handling sessions and animal highlights to look out for during your visit.

Each of our talks lasts around 10 minutes with an opportunity for visitors to ask questions afterwards.

You can pre-book tickets online in advance to join our fast track que and cut down the waiting time for entry to the zoo, please be aware tickets must be booked the day before your visit.

Hope that you will visit us again soon, to enjoy our animals and the great views from the top of Edinburgh Zoo.

As a family we just love the zoo! Our two little boys (4 & 2) love looking for the animals. Hot favourites with both boys are the penguins, closely followed by the monkeys and the lions. I can’t believe the number of improvements that the zoo have made since our last visit, delighted to see that funds are constantly being allocated to improving conditions for the animals. All of the staff are knowledgeable and helpful. We look forward to the next time we are in Edinburgh and can visit again.

First visit to Edinburgh Zoo in a long time and unfortunately our first impressions were not good. Had to wait 40 in the car to navigate the huge queues into the zoo car park. Once out the car we queued a further 1 hour 30 minutes to get into the park. We started queuing at 11am on the road and got in around 1:20 to see the animals. All in all zoo was ok but ruined by poor start. The problem was simply not enough staff on desks in reception.

Thankyou for taking the time to leave a review, and I'm sorry that there were some long queues yesterday. I'm sure you can appreciate that during school holidays we do experience greater numbers of visitors, and as you will have seen all of our six desks were staffed so that we could process sales as quickly as possible. In the future, if you pre-book through our website you can bypass the main queue and have your ticket scanned within just a few minutes. I hope you enjoyed your visit once inside.

Visited during easter holidays, unfortunately we had rain hail & snow! We hired our son a wheelchair as he recently had surgery & is on crutches so we knew he wouldnt make it round this very steep zoo. The girl on the desk even gave us a mobility map & phone number for free use of the mobility car which you just call & picks you up, excellent service!! Animals were all well kept but unfortunately most were in hiding (I dont blame them) as it was really cold & wet. Despite the weather we enjoyed our day at the zoo, staff were lovely & helpful. Will return but hopefully in the summer with better weather!!

We are so glad that you enjoyed your day with us and made the most of the services that we offer for mobility impaired visitors.

Although some animals can easily be seen in their environments, in adverse weather conditions if the animals are sheltering, there are indoor viewing areas so that you can view them and stay nice and dry also.

We look forward to seeing you again when your son is more mobile and when the weather is better also thank you for the lovely comments about our staff.
