“Lovely hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012

Stayed at this hotel on the evening before our flight out from edinburgh and on the evening of our return. got a good deal on car parking and transfer to the airport. the rooms were lovely. 2 double beds that were extremely comfortable and very luxurious. We also used the swimming pool and facilities and really enjoyed them. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was most enjoyable. The hotel is not the prettiest from the outside, as another reviewer has pointed out but its very nice inside. would definitely visit again.

I enjoyed this hotel, but it's away from many things. It's about a 7 pound can ride to the nearest train station, and 15 pounds to the castle.

There isn't much in the ways of restaurants in the area, but the hotel food is very good.

The rooms are very clean and quite big.

Service. The front staff are on the ball when it comes to getting to where you want to go. But, there isn't a airport shuttle so a 10 pound cab ride is what you looking for.

Food good ( although not the best breakfast ever but then I guess I have been spoilt) Got a good deal and it was convemient for what I needed so great value for money and a nice little treat. Reception staff nice and helpful

We stayed for one night on Saturday 7th April. It was a special trip to celebrate my Mum's 70th birthday. We had requested an early check in as Mum and Dad were going to the theatre and we knew we were going to be pushed for time. We arrived at just after 2pm and asked to check in. Our rooms were not ready and the reception staff asked if we were going out for the afternoon or advised that we could have a drink in the bar or use the leisure facilities. Mum and Dad headed to the bar and we headed for the pool. On the plus side the leisure centre was excellent and the staff very efficient, friendly and polite. Changing rooms were clean and the pool area was well maintained. We came back to reception at around 3.30pm and asked again about our rooms but they were still not ready, by this point I was a little cross although more disappointed as Mum and Dad had now been sitting in the lounge area for an hour and a half and hadn't even been offered so much as a complimentary tea or coffee. At no point during our wait did any of the reception staff keep us informed of what was going on or how long we could expect to wait, and believe you me there was plenty of staff on duty to do so. Eventually I asked one of the staff to find out what was going on as people were arriving, checking in and being allocated rooms while we were still waiting! After about 15 mins the girl came back and said that our rooms were now ready - at 4pm - so much for early check in!!! On our way to the rooms (on the ground floor) it was very evident that the housekeeping staff were still working as there were bags of rubbish waiting for collection along the corridor. The excuse we were given for the delay in getting the rooms was that the French rugby team Toulouse had stayed in the hotel the night before and the hotel was really busy - hardly an excuse to my mind. Perhaps the hotel should rethink the balance of reception staff to housekeeping staff??? The room we had was excellent, spotlessly clean, very well presented and very comfortable. Mum and dads room was OK as well but faced out onto a wall only about 4 feet away which was disappointing.

Breakfast was very busy, the restaurant was more or less full. The staff were very pleasant but seemed to be rushed off their feet. The buffet was very comprehensive and the food was good quality. Only down side was the continental bread which was so hard on the bottom I couln't cut through it!

All in all a good hotel. The housekeeping in the hotel was to a very high standard. An observation would be that the number of staff on reception was excessive. Concierge staff were also extremely helpful.

All in all a good hotel but lacking overall in customer service at the point of reception where first impressions are made!

Myself, my husband and eight year old son have just returned from a weekend stay at the Edinburgh Marriott Hotel. I cannot fault the hotel.

On arrival, we were checked in within minutes, all the staff on reception were polite, happy and always had a smile and a good morning for you. When we got into our room, to say we were pleasantly surprised is an understatement. The room was a fantastic size, very modern and very clean, everything and more that you would expect from a four star rated hotel. Beds were very comfortable and gave you a very good nights sleep. The extra bed for our son was a sofa bed but again was very comfortable.

We booked a package that gave us Bed, Breakfast and Evening Meals, although I had thought that I had to pay for our son's meals separately. This wasn't the case, because we had booked the package we were given an allowance for meals for each night which was £70 for the three of us. This was more than enough for us to have a good meal each night. The food was absolutely fantastic, you had the choice of a Carvery Buffet or the A La Carte, some people may say that the choice was limited but it was more than ample for what we wanted. The choice for kids was fantastic too, with all the favourites, Pizza, Sausage and Mash, Jacket Potatoes, Chips, Pasta... our Son ate very well. Breakfast, if you can't find something to eat in that breakfast room, the choice was fantastic, you had the old favourite cooked english breakfast, a choice of cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt, continental breakfast, again the quality of the food was excellent.

We didn't use any of the facilities at the hotel, so I can't comment on any of those. All the public areas of the hotel were very clean and always very well presented.

The customer service at this hotel is second to none, all of the staff were excellent and always on hand to help if you needed it. Although our son didn't do any of the activities for easter that were going on, we were told about them but we were out and about for both days. Debby, the Guest Relations Manager, what a lady, absolutely lovely personality, loved the children and always had the time for a quick chat with you. Always had a smile on her face and clearly loved her job.

In terms of the location, the hotel is situated about 20 minutes from Edinburgh City Centre, but it really is so easy to get into the city by bus, the bus stop is literally across the road, catch a number 31 which will drop you off at the bottom of George Street, literally a 5 minute walk (if that), from Princes Street. Tickets on Lothian Buses are dirt cheap, you can either pay £1.40 one way and it doesn't matter how many stops you go, it's the same price or you can buy a day rider for £3.50 and you can hop on and off as many Lothian buses as you want in that day. The open top bus tours are good, we had a ticket for Saturday, it got us to Edinburgh Castle and Yacht Britannia and we also saw the other sights of Edinburgh.

All in all, an excellent family weekend away.
