“Uninspiring from the outside but quite good overall”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2012

Quite a miserable looking building on the outside but located 5 minutes drive from Edinburgh Airport and a 20 minutes bus ride into the City. Staff seem hard working and friendly though have witnessed some of the chaos at breakfast where the buffet has various items missing for sometimes 10 minutes.

Does have free parking (most city centre chains will charge around £15 day) and an onsite gym with around 15 pieces of equipment plus pool. I also agree with those who have said dinner is nothing special.

Rooms themselves are of the usual Marriott standards (red and gold colours, comfortable big bed, good sized LCD TV and all very clean. Sadly they charge you for wifi.

On the downside the hotel does seem to suffer from rooms being a little hot.

They can look after you for large functions of probably up to 200 people.

We stayed for one night in deluxe rooms with our son and his family. We had booked to visit the pandas and the location was convenient for the zoo. It was also very easy to get into town. The bedrooms and bathroooms were spacious, comfortable, clean and warm. The children (6 and 2) were given crayons and colouring/puzzle books on arrival. We particularly liked the swimming pool in the leisure suite, which was lovely and warm, and we all thoroughly enjoyed spending family time in it. Cooked items at breakfast were very good, although the coffee wasn't very nice and the selection of fruit limited - and we did have to queue for about 10-15minutes. Lunch seemed a bit overpriced for the portions but the food was fine. Overall, it was good for a family break and we would definitely stay there again.

Stayed the night in a superior room. Whilst the staff where friendly the lack of any hot water in the morning for a shower was a big let down.

Came home to find my ankle covered in insect bites, probably caused by flee infestation in the hotel.

Food was average and could be much better.

Stayed at the marriott for one night on our anniversary. Very welcoming receptionist. Room was comfortable and spacious, however very hot. Very nice bathroom. We thought we would have a drink in the executive lounge before our dinner.....it was one drink! Without any warning, the bar was closed at 7.30 on the dot. The snacks were not the usual marriott standard. Executive lounge is a waste of money at this hotel. I was disappointed in the menu at the restaurant. I was hoping for lean steak or chicken breast but most of the meat on offer was fatty. I ordered steak medallions without the king prawns and was presented with a massive plate of chips and the tiniest steak hidden beneath some rocket. Rip off at £19. Will not eat there again. Breakfast was chaos. Food was fine but they found it hard to keep up with demand. We had to wait 15mins for a table. Plenty of parking but overall, hotel felt dated .

Just returned from an overnight stay, ample free parking, hotel located beside bus stop with buses passing every 10 mins to the city centre. Rooms were clean we had a kingsize bedroom and there was ample space in the room. Staff were helpful and friendly. Lovely buffet breakfast with plenty choice of hot and cold. Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Edinburgh as you can explore the city without the worry of finding parking. It was my husbands 40th birthday and awaiting in our room was a card and a voucher for a bottle of house wine. What a lovely surprise - Perfect.
