“Brilliant food and friendly service!”
Reviewed 18 March 2012

We were in Edinburgh for 3nights and 2 of our meals were at Beirut...that says it all. The meals were lovely and customer service was personable and top notch. For starters we had hummus, labnek and chicken soup - they were all great! The mains were mixed sharwama, chicken sharwama and lamb sharwama, with rice and salad. Dessert was baklava - I had forgotten how good they taste - Beirut brought it all back. On the first day, we told the staff (think it was the manager/owner) that we only had 40mins to spare for the meal ...he made it happen...and ensured we were satisfied with the service - we sure were!

“Wide choice of interesting, tasty food. Great value”
Reviewed 16 March 2012

I was spoilt for choice on the menu. I changed my mind several times finally chose the yoghurt starter followed by the green beans and lamb. My wife had vine leaves and grilled chicken. (£33)
All the dishes were very tasty especially the vine leaves. There was an emphasis on tast and food quality but I was full after the meal
The restaraunt was busy on a Wednesday evening which is an indicator of customer opinion.
Friendly waitress and owner with whom we engaged in converstion.
We will definately be returning with friends. Try it out.

“Delicious grilled meats, vine leaves, baklava & BYOB”
Reviewed 14 March 2012

Spur of the moment early evening dinner after work with my other half.
We were famished (he hadn't had lunch & had been running all over Ed all day).
2 Starters - vine leaves & a spicy sausage dish in tomato sauce ( last choice on the hot starter list). Portions were small but the flavours were delicious. The vine leaves were gorgeous!
2 Mains - he went for the mixed grill - I tried the boneless chicken with garlic & salad.
The meal was simple, and the huge main courses explained why they'd left us room with our starters. The meat was perfectly seasoned, delicately spice and deliciously juicy and tender. The rice was flavoured with a dark, fragrant herb I just could't place - the very helpful waiter told me it was a sun-dried thyme. Lovely.
It's an alcohol free restaurant so we washed our meal down with coke, diet irn bru, & peppermint tea. but you can BYOB if you like - shop round the corner. I noticed a few choices of alcohol free beers on the menu including fruit flavours.
We were offered complimentary baklava & mints with the bill which came to £45 for the two of us.
Overall it was a delicious meal, simple well cooked fare. The atmosphere is dusky & romantic - perfect for a date where you want to look worldly but down to earth. It was maybe a little pricey compared to some of the set menu deals that are available - would be great to see a pre-theatre menu - 2 courses for £10-12 or similar for early diners - but I would still go back.

“Amazing food at a very reasonable price”
Reviewed 9 March 2012

We went on recommendation from a friend, looking for a small bite to eat on a budget. By the time we left were were stuffed, thoroughly enjoyed all the food and didn't feel like we'd overspent. The service was fast and the staff very friendly.
