The hotel is very well located - just five minutes walk from the railway station though if you have a suitcase, the upward incline can be a bit tiring. The rear of the hotel has steps leading upto Edinburgh's most famous tourist area - the Royal Mile. This is just a 2 minute walk to the centre of the Royal Mile and another 10 minutes to the Edinburgh Castle.

The rooms in the hotel are standard, rather small though the beds are comfortable. The tub in the bathroom is a bit small and it does get difficult if you want to take a shower. One plus factor was the great view that our room had. We were on the 5th floor with a room facing the front overlooking the station and Carlton Hill with all it's monuments.

Staff at the hotel, particularly the front desk are very friendly and helpful . There is a small parking lot at the rear where you can park your park for short durations - however for long periods you would require to park in the adjoining parking lot.

The hotel is fair value for money at 150 pounds a night, though this is a bit high for a budget hotel. It is a good basic hotel at a fantastic location.

Room Tip: Take a room facing the front. The view is great

This is a popular hotel with many international guests and is constantly busy. I found the staff really helpful, They even allowed me to park my motorcycle in the small safe area at the back of the hotel overnight rather than on the street. A small thing you may say, but important to me and shows thoughtfulnes for the customer above and beyond the basics. Proximity to the train station is very useful, but it can be a little noisy if your room is on the front of the hotel and you want to open the window. That said the rooms were spotlessly clean, the beds comfy, and the breakfast fullsome.

I have to say that the majority of negative comments regarding this hotel are an absolute joke. For instance, a lot of them complain about the noise from the train station!! Do they not check the location of the hotel before booking?!! With the era of Google street view etc it is simple to look at the location and see how close the train station is. I had a room overlooking the station and have to say that even with both windows open, the noise did not wake me up and the view over the city was exceptional. The staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful, the rooms were immaculate, beds were fresh and clean with extra blankets and pillows provided, showers were powerful and hot, breakfast was all you can eat buffet style and had everything you would expect and more, the location is central to everything and it is exactly what any city hotel should be. I will definitely be staying again if I can.

Have stayed here a couple of times - the hotel is located only a couple of minutes walk from Waverley station, which is excellent if you are coming on the train or the airport bus. Rooms have a fantastic view over the city, and are spacious and clean. The restaurant is very good, as is the bar, with great service and a good selection of food. Staff are friendly and efficient. I generally stay here for business, but would certainly stay here for pleasure when visiting Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Front side has best views

We stayed here as part of our Scotland tour and this hotel is very convenient for all of the tourist attractions in Edinburgh. We arrived by train and the hotel is just two minutes walk from the station entrance. Reception was very friendly and we had a great room on the 5th floor overlooking Calton Hill. The next road up from the hotel comes out halfway along the Royal Mile and a short walk away from all the attractions and plenty of eating and watering holes. The only downside is that breakfast is a self service affair and the choices are fairly limited so if you are staying more than a couple of nights may become a bit samey.

All in all though this hotel scores on convenience and value for money.
