Owner description: St Giles’ Cathedral is the historic City Church of Edinburgh. With its famed crown spire it stands on the Royal Mile between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Also known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, it is the Mother Church of Presbyterianism and contains the Chapel of the Order of the Thistle (Scotland’s chivalric company of knights headed by the Queen). Please do not book any tours through TripAdvisor, as they are not endorsed by the cathedral.

See one of the places where the Scottish Reformation began. Be sure to look for John Knox's grave in the adjacent parking lot, too.

I always make sure that I pop into St Giles to look at the Stained Glass especially the Morris and Burne Jones Glass.

Small by cathedral standards but definitely worth a visit as it's free. Can be quite busy and tends to shut early - we witnessed many people who were disappointed to find the doors locked at around 5:00pm. Beautiful stained glass windows and, despite being busy, it's possible just to sit and look at everything quite peacefully.
