Owner description: The Writers' Museum in the 17th century Lady Stair's House, is dedicated to the lives and work of Scotland's great literary figures, particularly Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. The rich collection of manuscripts, first editions and portraits is complemented by a series of personal exhibits that include Burns' writing desk and the Ballantyne Press on which Scott's Waverley novels were originally published.

This museum is housed in a fascinating building- with lots of stairs- which gives it an almost intimate feel.
There are varied artefacts here, connected with the most well known Scottish writers.
As I have a particular interest in Robert Louis Stevenson, I especially enjoyed the floor dedicated to his rather too short life, and his literary output.
It was also rather nice to be able to purchase a copy of one of his novels in the pleasant gift shop.
I would thoroughly recommend this museum to those who enjoy literature- and 'quirky 'old houses!

Interactive and informative. There’s something for everyone here! I particularly enjoyed the children’s room, the word waterfall, and the variety of interactive exhibits. If you like books, you’ll love this museum!

Have been here several times with different people. The latest trip was with my sister. We both enjoyed walking around reading the information this collection has.
Would recommend it as a good stop just off the royal mile. There are lots of stairs

It was a dreary drizzly day in Edinburgh, so we made our way to the Writer's museum to see the exhibition celebrating the 100 year centenary of Muriel Spark's birth. An interesting collection of her work and a fascinating story. Like many I suspect, I had really only heard of Miss Jean Brodie and Peckham Rye, I had no idea how prolific her work had been. The exhibition is a little cramped, but nonetheless a fascinating visit.

This is an excellent little hidden away museum to some of the great scottish writers, Burns, Scott and Stevenson. There are a number of intersting personal items in a building that is well worth seeing as well.
