Owner description: Edinburgh Castle is a world famous icon of Scotland and part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site. It was recently voted top UK Heritage Attraction in the British Travel Awards and is Scotland’s number one paid-for tourist attraction. This most famous of Scottish castles has a complex building history. The oldest part, St Margaret's Chapel, dates from the 12th century; the Great Hall was erected by James IV around 1510; the Half Moon Battery by the Regent Morton in the late 16th century; and the Scottish National War Memorial after the First World War. The castle houses the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, the famous 15th century gun Mons Meg, the One O' Clock Gun and the National War Museum of Scotland.

An absolute central focalpoint of town this is not something to be missed with its rich history throughout the years that are showcased in various ways at the museums. If you are not into history and old buildings...enjoy the view! Do preorder tickets so you dont have to wait in line to purchase one.

Very good overall, unfortunately our visit was impacted by the snow and strong wind but that didn’t stop us! Lots to see for the price; prisons, national war museum of Scotland; crown jewels etc.

The only two things I disliked were the fact that the royal bedrooms were closed as this was the one thing I was very eager to see and the fact that there is no student discount for English students (everywhere else did it)

Exhausting for those of us who struggle a little more with mobility. But well worth the effort. What a beautiful place.

The views are amazing, however for two adults I think it was 30 something. I’ve been to attractions all over the UK and found this to be expensive for what it is.

Maybe if there was more to do on the inside it would be worth the money. There are a few little museums and the views. Which if it isn’t too busy took us about 25 minutes.

If you’re staying in Edinburgh you simply have to visit the castle. Yes it’s very, very crowded, but book a day in advance and you will save time and a few pounds. The views are stunning, the war memorial is worth the entrance fee alone and the Crown Jewels are the Crown Jewels!
