“Great location, food, service and value”
Reviewed 26 February 2012

Second visit, and just as good as the first. Lovely location on Newhaven harbour. Good food - both times they were happy to make small changes to the item on the menu for us - and the puddings are good too, so often a disappointment in other restaurants. We didn't feel rushed at all, neither were we kept waiting for a long time between courses, the service was perfectly judged. Considering the quality of the food and the very pleasant environment, we feel this is very good value. This is definitely a restaurant we'll visit again if the opportunity arises.

“Nice food but hit and miss service”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

I had visited the Loch Fyne Oyster bar and Seafood restaurant in Cairndow and was so impressed that I wanted to try this restaurant to make use of their 25% off voucher (Which was unfortunately not valid at the Cairndow restaurant).

I would advise anyone visiting one of the Loch Fyne restaurants to check the menus of each branch as each one is different. Like the Cairndow branch, this was located right on Newhaven Harbour and would have great views when warm and sunny. The restaurant was quite big and airy.

The menu selection was less than the Cairndow restaurant but with more cooked seafood mains so this is ideal for those who aren't so keen on raw seafood which my friend doesn't. Again the ingredients were fresh and tasty. We had the salt & pepper squid and oysters to start followed by the fisherman's pie and seafood selection, and Sticky toffee pudding and creme brulee to finish.

The food was to my expected standards following my visit to the Cairndow branch but the service was rather hit and miss.

The waiting staff although friendly and curteous were slow to take our orders even after we mentioned that we were ready to order. At the time there was only 4 tables with customers including ours but were made to wait another 8 minutes before our order was taken even though there were 3 waiting staff. My friend had to flag the waiting staff down twice to get hot milk with her milk and after our desserts were being cleared away and we told the waiting staff that we didn't want anything else, immediately we were bruskly asked if we wanted the bill even though the restaurant was less than a third full.

With the 25% off voucher the meal was only about £49 which was quite reasonable for a 3 course seafood lunch for 2 people. It would have been over £60 without the voucher and a bit pricey when compared to my visit to the Cairndow restaurant with 2 other friends which came to just over £120 and we had the seafood platter, 18 assorted oysters, other starters and desserts also.

So all in all, nice food and atmosphere, hit and miss service and can be a bit overpriced.

Reviewed 19 February 2012

could eat forever, flawless fresh seafood (we are oyster addicts and we were so happyyyyyyyyyy) looks out over the water, staff professional but friendly and answer all manner of questions (or even better, they go ask!) we had a blast with 4 friends and had the freshest seafood we have ever eaten, we dream of Loch Fyne

“Great Oyster Bar”
Reviewed 5 February 2012

This is the Edinburgh incarnation of the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar on Loch Fyne in the Highlands. Not as atmospheric as the original but uses top class ingredients to serve up a gastronomic delight.
