This property with four bedrooms and three bathrooms was perfect for two families sharing. Plenty of privacy when you needed it and using the studio for one of the teenagers meant it doubled up as a second living room for the teenagers when they wanted to do their thing. Although there's no garden as such the terrace overlooking the river was perfect. All the main rooms look onto the river and watching the changing tides, the herons and the various boats passing by was the perfect backdrop to our holiday. We were visiting in October so we weren't expecting to be eating outside but with a warm jersey it was still feasible to sit on the terrace with your glass of wine watching the sunset. The kitchen facilities were fine and plenty of room for all of us to eat together at the dining table. There's no dedicated parking but we managed to get two spaces in the street easily but I suspect in the peak summer periods that might be harder. You must visit the NTS property a couple of houses along, it has a beautiful garden. Would definitely visit again.

Thank you for your review. Glad to hear that the Boathouse provided perfect accommodation for two families. The terrace/jetty is indeed an ideal spot for observing all that goes on riverside. In addition the very private, walled patio on the other side of the house comes into its own in summer time as it catches the sun all day long. As it is fully enclosed, it is very safe for children and dogs.

“Stunning location”
Reviewed 18 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Superb accommodation on the riverside in a quiet part of town but so close to amenities. Kirkcudbright is a pleasant town with good places to eat and a variety of shops.
It was very relaxing to sit by the picture windows overlooking the river and watch the world and local trawlers go by. Heating system was brilliant ,we were so warm and cosy. Lots to see and do in beautiful autumnal Galloway .

Appreciate you taking the time to write a review. The Boathouse is definitely in a unique location - so private and at the same time within easy access of shops, cafes, galleries. Autumn is always a good time for a break in D&G. Hope to welcome you again!

“Great, cosy, little base within Dumfries & Galloway”
Reviewed 28 June 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Stayed for a week at the beginning of May 2015.
I booked many months in advance to provide us with a base for a tour of Wicker Man filming locations. Great communications from owner and absolutely no problems.
The Boathouse is very comfortable and very handily placed close to the centre of Kirkcudbright, which itself is a lovely little self-contained and well maintained town.
The property was well equipped and the riverside location makes for a very peaceful and quiet place to pass the time. There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms, which is a real bonus. The living and dining area is also very spacious.
My wife and I had taken my father with us and we were all very sad to leave. Fab house in a fab town.

Happy to hear the Boathouse provided a comfortable base for your Wicker Man film location tour. Thankfully, Kirkcudbright people are a bit more welcoming than the locals in the Wicker Man!

“Superb rIver views, town centre location.”
Reviewed 23 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Excellent cottage, private and comfortable, with terrace and large windows overlooking the river, close to harbour and Kirkcudbright town centre.
Lots to do in area and town. Coastal walks, ruined castles, local cafes and restaurants. We caught the end of the annual jazz festival and enjoyed a bistro meal with jazz pianist. The National Trust property Broughton House with it's beautiful garden is a few doors away.
We always managed to get a parking space in the High Street.
