“CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2011

My niece and I were blown away by the beauty & hospitality that Tom & Sue showered on us by sharing their lovely B&B. I had never been to Scotland and they set the bar high for my entire trip there. Every morning our day was started off with a delightful homecooked scrumptious breakfast with great conversation with Sue and a visit by Indie, their beautiful weimaraner. Sue and Tom gave us great tips for our daily travels and we were never disappointed. Upon our arrival home each night (which was often quite late) Tom would greet us and ask about our day. He said he was up anyway watching TV, but we got the impression that he was making sure we arrived home safely. That made us both feel very protected. Thank you, Tom.

Liz Curtis Higgs, an American author, wrote a book "My Heart is in the Lowlands". Because of Sue & Tom and their lovely B&B, I can now say mine is, as well.

I hope I am fortunate enough to be able to return one day. Soon!!

My aunt and I were blessed to spend our vacation in Scotland in this beautiful B&B. Sue and Tom were the warmest and friendliest of hosts. After only a few days they made us feel like family, sharing early morning conversation, offering travel tips, recommending places to eat (Casa Mia is definitely worth the trip into town!), and even going so far as to provide a router for us to check emails. I slept in the upstairs room which was comfortable, clean, and cozy (and the attached bathroom with the heated floors was amazing!). Sue is also a wonderful cook--I can still remember the taste of her salmon and scrambled eggs over an English muffin. Yum!
Dumfries is also a good home base for visiting the Lowlands--one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. We took day trips to the Highlands and Borders, as well. It makes for a long day, but worth doing if you don't mind a few hours in a car (though the scenery you will see is well worth it!).
If you want a B&B that feels more like a home, Millhill Farm is the place to stay!

First of all let me say that Sue and Tom are two warm and friendly hosts. They make you feel welcome from the minute you arrive and Tom is more than glad to explain about the things going on at the farm. The rooms and the guest areas are spotlessly clean. We stayed for one night in the Garden Room on the lower floor. We have however one small remark. Both rooms are situated just above each other and apparently the floors are very thin because you can hear every step the other guests make in their room, you even can hear a pin drop.
Breakfast is very good, with all natural products some of them directly from the farm (fresh free eggs, home made bacon....).
The 3 dogs are also adorable.
Millhill Farm is the perfect stopping place when travelling from Schotland back to England or to the mainland. The best address in Dumfries.

I am very glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us, we enjoyed looking after you. I am sorry to hear that the floor disturbed you. The floor above the downstairs bedroom does creak a little when someone walks on it in a certain area. The floor is insulated and was only built in 2006. I appreciate your comments, and it it something we are certainly going to look into remedying, however I do believe 'you can hear a pin drop' is maybe a phrase that is going too far and perhaps is just to do with language barrier. Many thanks again.

This is definatley 5 star, for a relaxing break. It is the small touches that make all the diference. The views are breathtaking. There is a choice for breakfast all with excelent locally producced food. Tom and Susan are very helpfull and give good advice on the area. Threre is a good farm shop and cafe nearby. We ate at the Casa Mia and Cavens in the town and would recomend both places.
