I stayed here for 4 days with my family. The entrance was very welcoming and the receptionist went out of his way to come outside and greet us as well as taking our luggage up to our room for us. following this the chef himself had found out that my family and i had certain dietary requirements so he approached us when we entered and told us that he will discuss what we would like to eat as per our dietary requirement which was a very nice touch from himself. as well as this the room and the staff were also excellent.

3 night short break. Hotel could do with a bit of freshening up but it does cater for many coach parties. Single room was more than adequate - comfortable bed, tea/coffee facilities and TV. As previously said decor a bit dated but the room was clean and the bed linen and towels spotless. Staff were friendly and efficient, food and entertainment were excellent and there was plenty to see and do in the surrounding area. Not part of a coach party but booked through Shearings.

Room Tip: Superior rooms probably better for couples.

My wife and I stayed here 26th to 30th March on a Shearings holiday in an upgraded room on the third floor, room 317.. We had a really good time in a lovely location. Initially, we had a problem with the water supply in the taps but James the manager quickly attended to this and resolved it. Also, our Shearings tour driver Stuart was excellent. Well done!

Room Tip: Always wise to have an upgraded room

My wife and I stayed at the Bay Waverley Castle Hotel from 19th - 23rd March 2018. This was a Shearings coach holiday. We arrived at the hotel about 5:45 pm after a long day travelling and was checked in at reception and was given key room number 110. This was a Premier room located on the first floor. The room was spacious with separate seating area with sofa, two chairs with table and bathroom with bath, toilet and separate shower cubicle. Also complementary toiletries. The bed was very comfortable. There was also flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facility, complementary water and chocolate.
The room was on the corner of the building and garden view to the front and side.
The hotel building is impressive from the outside surrounded by trees and grass with the river Tweed close by and accessed by a path from the hotel grounds.
The hotel restaurant was spacious although tables close together. The waiting staff were always busy both at breakfast and dinner. To improve efficiency and reduce waiting time additional staff would be helpful. The food selection at breakfast was very good with tea and coffee offered by waiting staff. The evening meal was nice although vegetable choice was poor. On one evening my wife did not like any of the starter choice and asked if she could have a salad. This arrived as requested, however a beef tomato cut in half and some sprigs of watercress does not constitute a salad.
The Ivanhoe bar was Nice and cosy and a place to meet up and chat with friends .The bar staff were friendly and efficient .As Shearings customers and part of our package, we had 4 free drinks per person per night.
The hotel is about a steady 25 minute walk from Melrose or a £4 taxi fare booked at the local flower shop in Melrose.
To summarise : The building is very impressive with room 110 large with high ceiling. Room very comfortable and cosy, nicely decorated. Nice bathroom and shower.
Food was ok, although small portions. Better choice off vegetables to give a better balance to the meal. All staff members friendly. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay.
Shearings coach holidays represents good value for money. Our driver for the duration of our stay was Graham who escorted us for day trips. He was very entertaining and knowledgeable about places of historical interest. Well done Shearings.

Room Tip: Premier room 110 is large with bay window and garden view. Quiet room.
