I have stayed Several times at Killchrist (Christchurch) Cottages and have stayed in 4 of the 5 cottages. The facilities were a little basic but were clean welcoming and maintained to a very good standard.
They are very old buildings and all have their own quirks and features. If you want perfection go a stay in a 5-star hotel, if you want a great holiday in a secluded location that is a short drive from Campbelltown and is great for touring the peninsula, in accommodation that is a little different from the boring standard.
The cottages are surrounded by beautiful countryside and great walks and drives. I now have friends staying in Campbelltown so stay with them now, but would recommend the cottages to anyone, and frequently do.
We stayed in MacGreggor and it was the perfect place to while away some rainy days after new year.
The cottage is so warm (the heaters are available to you to turn on/off at your discretion and can turn the rooms quite tropical if left on for half an hour or so) and the living room, bedroom, and kitchen provide ample space to relax so you don't feel like you're stuck in one room.
The kitchen is very well equipped with crockery/cooking utensils - the knives need sharpening though! There's a small fridge with a freezer compartment. The cooker, microwave, and kettle all work great which is a change from other places where it takes hours to make dinner.
The bathroom is small but functions fine - the shower was, and stayed, surprisingly warm (for the area) and had good pressure.
The upstairs living room was very comfortable and was where we spent the majority of our stay.
The bedroom has a really comfy double bed with super thick duvet. There is loads of room for storing clothes if you want to unpack.
The house is like 2 minutes drive off the main road, down a farm track - think jagged stones and potholes but still easily drivable in a hatchback. Parking is somewhat tight - and be careful to stay off the grass after rainy weather - but never caused any problems for us.
The hosts live on site and are really lovely - always would say hi if we passed each other on our way out. They were also really accommodating and generous about an issue we had during our stay which we are very thankful for.
For the price I don't think there's better in Kintyre - if you need somewhere to stay to explore the area around Campbeltown you need to stay here!
if you want somewhere to get peace and quiet then this is the place.in a nice quiet location but still close enough (short drive) to amenities in campbeltown.we stayed in angus cottage (4 adults) and this was perfectly adequate for us. cottage was nice and clean and had everything we needed for 3 nights away.the only draw back in angus cottage is the internal spiral stairs which might not be suitable for folk with mobility difficulties. If you are the type of person who needs to be attached to your phone then this is definetly not the place for you as there is no phone signal!b a nice touch was the tea, oatcakes, jam and marmalade in the wee welcome package .
I stayed here for 4 nights with my friend and our 2 dogs. We stayed in the one bedroom cottage which was small and clean. It was a good location as a base - close to Campbeltown, Southend and the lovely Machrihanish gold club (lovely food and nice beach).
The cottage itself was small and basic, comfortable and clean. The kitchen area has what you need - fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, oven and hob. The bed was comfortable and the linen was clean - as were the pillows and quilts underneath the linen.
The living area was small but pleasant and the showroom was small but clean. If we had been tall strapping lads the shower may have been a bit of a squeeze so something to consider if you are looking for a luxurious bathroom and sizeable shower.
Overall I think this is a great little place to stay for a few days as a base. If you are looking for a 'luxurious home' where you can spread out for a week or so then this may not be the place for you, but I think the price and description adequately reflects this. The value for money was fair.
The caretakers were very helpful and friendly and we felt comfortable leaving our well behaved dogs at the cottage alone for a couple of hours after their walk when we needed to pop out without them.
I would stay here again when visiting Kintyre.
Fantastic rural location, loads of room to do whatever you do, great facilities, even had some cows looking in my window in the evening.
If you want a place to relax and chill out, then look no further. Great facilities throughout, no complaints whatsoever.
