“Great Base, Comfortable and Welcoming”
Reviewed 4 November 2017 for a stay in November 2017

Stayed for 2 nights with my wife and 9 year old daughter. Gerry was very helpful before the visit getting in touch with info about the venue etc. Gerry also welcomed us on arrival and showed us around the cottage.
Although small the cottage was perfect for us as a base to explore the local area. The bunk beds were comfy and the barthroom was modern and fully equipped with everything you need. The kitchen was fully equipped and the sofa doubled up as a double bed. To be honest the bed would be a little small for two but guess that is what you expect from a sofa bed. The cottage has a smart TV, DVD player and also a Wii. The house was warm with lovely underfloor heating. The location is perfect for getting to Tollymore or Castlewellan. Well worth doing the walk that Gerry has kindly mapped out up to the Fofanny dam. We were blessed with good weather and got out and about. The cottage would be a little small to spend any length of time in and would recommend the larger cottage if staying for any longer. Very reasonably priced.

Meelbeg is described as a small cottage with a sofa bed that converts into a double bed. The new sofa bed is slightly larger than a normal double mattress. Bearnagh Cottage on the same site clearly states it has space and luxury but at a higher price. Given that you were paying only £55/night for 4 people and all the quality points you mention this was a very mean score. Gerry

“Pleasant Stay”
Reviewed 7 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

My son and I visited Meelbeg Cottage ate Happyvale for three days in August. Gerry was a great host, helping my son hunt out local Game of Thrones filming locations. Stunning views of the Mourne Mountains, close by hiking, and short ride to Newcastle made this a relaxing place to finish our extended vacation in Northern Ireland. The cottage had a kitchen area/tv room, a very nice bathroom with warming rack and heated floor, and little bedroom with bunk beds. A great convenient place to explore the Mourne area.
