“Best View of Belfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2012

The Farset International Hotel is not designed to meet all of your hotelling needs. It's designed to be simple and affordable; and it achieves that. Primarily attracting a seminar/work clientele this hotel is situated on the periphery of West Belfast. But don't let that discourage you - in a city the size of Belfast 'periphery' means a £5 taxi ride to the city centre, a 15 minute bus ride or a 45 min stroll. Nowhere is ever far in Belfast and you'd do well to remember that when visiting. At competitive prices, what you pay for in taxis, buses and time from the Farset to the city centre you save in hotel costs. There's no expensive add-ons, you cant while away the hours at the bar, there won't be any expensive Spa treatments... just a quiet place to rest your head. Rooms are simple and clean, the service is friendly and the views are simply the BEST of any hotel in Belfast... hands down. Make sure you get a South facing room overlooking the small lake in front of the hotel and you'll be treated to a great panorama across the city as far as Scrabo Tower and the Hollywood Hills. Few if any hotels in Belfast offer as good a view. If you're interested in the troubled history of Belfast you couldn't pick a better base... while there is plenty of the history of the troubles in and around the city centre the vast majority is actually to be found in the estates and suburban streets surrounding the city. From here you are a 3 min walk to the longest unbroken peace line in Northern Ireland (Springmartin), containing over a million bricks and made famous by a documentary of the same name, the building of which commenced on the day of an IRA ceasefire. 5 minutes walk takes you down to Lanark Way, the Falls/Shankhill Peace Lines, The Falls Road, Ballymurphy and on into the Belfast Hills of White and Black Mountain (stunning views and a must for anybody). All of these areas are within immediate walking distance of the hotel, providing history, murals, local tales and characters in abundance. So do yourself a favour, take a night or 2 to stay up around the Farset, enjoy the incredible views, pack your own wine/beers/scrabble and just relax... for these prices you really shouldn't complain.

Room Tip: Ask for a South facing view over to the city for stunning views of Belfast.

We have been bringing our volunteer team here for years. This is a wonderful place to stay. Clean rooms, and quiet area. It overlooks a pond and the city of Belfast. They serve a nice breakfast every day. This is not a "fancy" hotel but a good basic place where you will be treated well. The location is outside of the downtown but the taxi service is good. This is a place we have recommended to friends and they have also liked it. We have stayed there 8 times and will return again in May.

Room Tip: No pool or fitness center Ask for a room overlooking the pond!

I love the Farset International, lovely view, great breakfast and reasonable, helpful staff and the price is good.
It isn't fancy but it is great for me - a private room, private bathroom, TV, fresh air instead of car exhaust or recycled and watching the birds in the pond morning and evening and watching the lights of Belfast just makes my day. There are no private phones but I always have my cell phone and there is a pay phone.
If you want an evening meal you can order it there or order it from nearby take aways and have it delivered fast, taxi service is great or the bus stops not far outside.
I have stayed downtown and hated it, just love the Farset.
Because of the different wings if you find a noisey neighbour you can be moved to another area. There is a kitchen and laundry as well.
The only thing that is unfortunate is that the prices have increased.

Room was small and bed was short and not very comfortable. Six footers will have problems. No drawers or shelves were provided, just a wardrobe. Shower in bath as usual but very good flow. Check cleanliness of towels before using as they don't seem to as I got a couple of 'streaks' from previous users. Staff are very friendly and extremely helpful although not very professional, eating their meals at reception area and desk. Tariff included free breakfast cereals. toast and tea and coffee although not very hot out of thermos jugs. In the end you get what you pay for.

Stayed a week in July 2011. I think I'll pay the extra elsewhere.
