What a lovely, friendly, welcoming place this is. We arrived in time for lunch and had a very good meal in the restaurant. The menu offers a good selection, the food is well cooked and the service is friendly and efficient. We went into Cardiff to watch rugby and returned later in the evening for a drink in the bar. They have a good range of more unusual draft beers and the bar is pleasant and warm. We were staying the night as the Inn has rooms available and we were very impressed by the accommodation. Good sized rooms, all ensuite, big comfortable beds and all appointed to good hotel standards (fresh milk in the minibar, for example). Breakfast next morning was the same high standard, with our host, Barbara, serving our party and a group of eight New Zealanders with the same good humour as she had served beer the night before. Although the Inn is only 6 or 7 miles out of Cardiff it is situated in beautiful countryside which I would love to go back to explore.

7 of us turned up yesterday afternoon without booking in advance and were given a lovely welcome. Staff rearranged furniture to accommodate us. We ordered a variety of steaks cooked beautifully according to requests and a fabulous dish from the specials board of hake with mussels, clams and cockles - stunning! Delicious deserts completed the meal. It isn't cheap but you get what you pay for. Beautiful food in an unpretentious setting with friendly staff. I will definitely return and wholeheartedly recommend the Gwaelod.

My husband and I just got back from a 3 week trip in the UK and Gwaelod was our favorite place to stay. We were there from Aug 21 through Aug 23. The room/bathroom were always clean, warm, very spacious and cozy and the bed was comfortable offering a great nights sleep. The staff was more than helpful, friendly and very fun. Barbara went out of her way for us making fantastic breakfasts and we had incredible dinners each night at the restaurant as well. So wonderful to just walk out the door after dinner and a pint (including their own tasty brew) and go far a lovely walk through the town or on the walking paths near by, then up the stairs to our room. No matter how busy the pub and restaurant was, the room was always peaceful and quiet. The location is a perfect home base for exploring South Wales. I highly recommend Gwaelod, next time I go back to Wales I will stay here again.

Travelled from Doncaster with the dogs to see the Monte Dons at the Gwaelod-y Garth Inn cider and sausage festival.
What a lovely night.
We stopped the night in the hotel. A very busy night and the most fantastic helpful pleasant staff ive come across in a very long time. Even after working a very long day, the ladies couldnt do enough for us. It was a bit awkward with the dogs as it was busy but the staff and all the people in the pub were very friendly and understanding when we seemed to get in everyones way!
The accommodation too was A+++ clean, bright, modern. Couldnt ask for anything more.
Breakfast in the morning was all good quality ingreidients...and a massive plate full too!! Same staff again... and still lovely. Do you ever sleep ladies??
Would recommend 100%
A big thank you xx xx

We spent two nights here in a separate building up the lane from the Inn. Our accommodation had two bedrooms and a full kitchen with coffee, tea and milk and a bathroom with shower. The towels were the largest and most absorbent ever! We found the rooms to be rather cold, partly because we were jet-lagged and also because we had just left the USA where the temperatures were in the 90s. (There was frost in the valley that night despite being there in July.) Babs was very accommodating and put the heating on for us.

Breakfast was delicious with very generous portions. There was a selection of cereals, yogurt and fruit followed by a cooked breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausage, black pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes together with tea, coffee and toast. The staff members were all very friendly and welcoming.

Ten of us ate dinner there on the first night and again the food and service were very good and also very good value.

Room Tip: Rooms up the hill have good views but would be difficult to reach for handicapped guests. Wifi available in main building.
