I've wanted to visit for such a long time so treated my daughters to a trip there this morning. Service - absolutely fine, coffee - lukewarm, cakes - poor. Carrot cake was beautiful, spinach and pistachio cake and my daughter's chocolate cake were clearly old. We bought a Walnut Brownie home for my husband (uncovered by the till) which was dry like cardboard.

It was a bit lacking in atmosphere too...but I've been - finally but won't be returning.

Hi Sue

Thanks for writing in - and apologies that it didnt live up to your expectations.

Are looking into the spinach and chocolate cakes - and will see if there are any improvements we can make on that front.

The brownie - was a gluten free one - which will be a bit drier than regular ones - but perhaps we should recreate the sign to highlight options on brownies - regular and gf.

Coffee - generally is 'lukewarm' - its probably one of the most mentioned comments - that the coffees aren't hot enough.
Regulars do know to ask fo it hotter - as they know our default is to do at 65 degrees celsius. This is a deliberate process - to retain the sweetness of the milk for the drink. When the milk is steamed too hot - then it becomes flat and less sweet. However - we are fully aware that a lot of the general public do want extra hot coffees - and as such will always make again if you would like it hotter - or you can request when you order.

Thanks for the feedback - always things we can do better and work on - agreed.

We booked last minute for Afternoon Tea on Good Friday, on a friend's recommendation. We ordered extra scones, as they were so yummy. We loved it. The service was exceptional and the staff were very friendly. We have been to many places for afternoon tea and have to say yours is amazing. We will be back.

Small cup of coffee gone in in three gulps.Scone was dry and difficult to swallow.I told the waiter who wanted to warm it up to make it more palatable. I was assured the scone was fresh yesterday!!! Really, if a cafe can't offer freshly made scones something's wrong.

Hey Christine

We do make scones daily - and will raise this with the team. Obviously if it was dry and unpalatable we should have realised and even a refund and provided an alternative. Lessons to be learned for sure.

Our coffee comes in 6/8 ounce cups. the amount of coffee in the cup will be equivalent to the amount in other cafes (one or two shots). The milk or water added will be less in volume than other places. For example - one of the chains offers a 20 ounce cup.
This is how we do things - as we prefer customers to taste the coffee rather than it being drowned out by the milk/water.

Fully appreciate that the norm set by the larger chains is super size - and that some customers may prefer that. Our approach is somewhat different on that front. (tea is served in pots of 500ml however - which delivers around 2-3 cups)

Thanks again for writing and definitely we can be better in the future.

All the best!

Really nice tea and coffee, well attended place and very tasty cakes! It can sometimes feel a little bit overpriced, but the atmosphere and the flavours really make up for it!

Called in as passing with my friend as fancied a coffee. So glad we decided to have a bite to eat as the rarebit was best I've had and plenty of it. Homemade, thick, soft bread with plenty of cheese with a side salad and tasty chutney. Two chaps serving were very polite and a nice change to see a smiling face which you don't normally get at the normal chain coffee shops. Will definitely be returning soon as the cakes looked Devine.
