If you like face-less modern hotels, this probably isn't for you. And for the benefit of one earlier reviewer, you do tend to get spiders/moths in the countryside...
Simon and Catriona are terrific hosts - exceedingly helpful and friendly. The house is charming - old certainly, but full of character. Great swimming pool, and the two small dogs Maud and Margot only add to the charm. The road to Abergavenny wasn't that nice for us cyclists, but there was some good eating nearby, and overall I'm so glad we booked.

Simon and Catriona are the most welcoming hosts we have ever experienced. We enjoyed a very relaxing stay in the quiet surroundings of their country house set in beautiful gardens. The gardens are worth a visit in their own right.
If you need a peaceful evening reading by a log fire then this is definitely the place to stay. It is also a great base for exploring the Use Valley countryside with exceptionally attractive walking nearby. Our breakfast was the best on our four day trip up the Usk.

Room Tip: Al the rooms we saw had lovely views.

Serendipity strikes again. Taking a quiet route through the Welsh Marches from Liverpool back to the M5 for Devon, we were lucky to be taken in at this quiet refuge from the modern world (thanks to my wife's skill at telephone booking). The moreso as we were travelling with our 18 year old Galah, even if she was in her cage. We had the use of a splendid sitting rrom with a wide opne log fire and a library sufficient for a year's rainy day reading. Tea on arrival, good advice on where to go for fine edining at a modest cost and an excellent breakfast. We stayed an extra night, of course. Thank you Catriona & Simon. And to top it all, an introduction to the Honorary Consul for Kiribati, which we had left in April.

We had a fine walk up to a local ancient hill fort, but never managed to see the grounds as it was very rainy, except when we were walking by the Usk up the hill and back. Next time, perhaps.

Spent two nights at this fascinating property. Was warmly greeted by Trona (and the dogs) upon our arrival, and she made it clear that anything that we needed would be provided. Such a lovely house and the gardens were amazingl! We were staying during a particularly hot spell, and it was lovely to take our afternoon tea out in the gardens. As stated in other reviews, you turn off the road into this magical property. Trona is a born hostess with a wonderful personality. We stayed in a lovely twin room (with bath across the hall) and could not have been more comfortable. A lovely sitting room on the first floor with a telly made for comfortable place to relax. Delicious breakfast with the most incredible fresh fruit. Everything that we could have wanted. I would most certainly stay here again and recommend it to anyone traveling in the area.

We have stayed in many B&Bs around the UK and I'd put this place as very near the best one yet! It was also our first trip to somewhere like this with our dogs. Lovely welcome from Simon and Catriona (and Maud and Margot!) who couldn't do enough for us. Room was perfectly clean, bed comfortable and an excellent shower. Spent the evening in the lounge in front of a log fire. Breakfast was faultless.
Cannot recommend this place and its beautiful gardens enough and we cant wait to return.
