The first time I visited Riverbourne Community Farm I was pleasantly surprised with how this had evolved over the years. Originally a group of locals got together to develop allotments. With their success in the venture came new buildings: plans for a greater eating area have been drawn up for next year. At present there is a very tiny cafe in a bit with an undercover awning by the side. There is an excellent range of chutneys, dressings, flours and small range of other food stuffs, along with their own meats and fabulous eggs from their own chickens: eggs with large bright yellow yolks.

The farm holds special open days during the year, such as Cream Teas on Sundays, or musical events. Tractor rides and walks to paddle in the river appeal to young and old alike. What steals the show, especially for the children are the pigs with their piglets, young goats and chickens galore. Excited faces and eager hands stroke the donkey, cows and huge spotted pigs can be seen further along the country path leading into the fields. Tracks follow in various directions and can be seen on leaflets provided by the farm.

The only downside being they do not open on Monday. on the other hand they have offered various cookery courses for adults or children recently. The open days are free and there is plenty of parking provided in the adjoining field. Dogs on leads are allowed. Everyone can enjoy the animals free of charge and it is quiet during the week.

I believe these hard working people are putting their all into making this business a great success and every year it grows a little bigger. Money is spent to make this a place to visit. Meantime it is doing a very valuable job in the community by bringing groups there to teach them about farming.

Went to this farm today for the first time, didn't know it was in Salisbury, took our granddaughter who lives in Milton Keynes, she enjoyed it very much especially the donkey's she thought they were great, a really good place to take your children considering it is free to go in and see the animals.

We took the local primary school reception class for a visit. They had a wonderful time seeing all the animals and collecting eggs!
