I have stayed at the King's Arms twice with my wife, and both times we were with another couple. By this, I was able to see 2 different rooms. This is a quirky old hotel with crooked staircases, doors and hallways. A fun place to stay and I would recommend it. Don't expect 4 star treatment or rooms but a good place for an affordable hotel in a location that can't be beat!

We were intrigued to see what a Wetherspoons hotel would be like so decided to give the Kings Arms Hotel a try for two nights whilst visiting Salisbury. We're experienced travellers that have stayed in a lot of different hotels across Europe and the Middle East so have realistic expectations. The "look" of the hotel is exactly as it is in the photos so they havnt used clever editing. The check in was really fast, friendly and easy. We had booked online (I recommend this). Our room was perfect, well - for the price it was bloody great. Clean, tidy, sizeable and with a good sized bathroom and a real bath (none of the travelodgesque teeny showers). The TV had plenty of freeview channels and all in all the room was really comfortable. It's not a Radisson Hotel so dont expect 5* but for the £95 that we paid for two nights it was amazing value for money. I have read reviews here where people have complained about the noise - we didnt have an issue with this at all but particularly "sensitive" residents should ask for a quiet room at least a day before checking in.

There were a couple of negative points to the hotel but I want to tell you that they in no way affected our stay.

1) The housekeeping staff dont make the bed properly, they just pulled the blankets back, ok - not the end of the world but there you are

2) There is no fridge in the room

3) The bar gets rowdy on the weekend, if you dont like funpub style loud music bars with an average punter being 18 to 21 go elsewhere (PLENTY of choice). That said we didnt have a noise problem so dont worry

The good points are obvious really but here they are as I see them

1) Amazingly good value for money - so cheap but its a "real" hotel not a B&B

2) The staff are lovely, really friendly

3) The location is perfect for exploring Salisbury, close to literally everything, shops, bars, restaurants, the bus station - everything!

4) Being a Wetherspoons they do an amazing breakfast for £2.99 (everything else is cheap too).

If you want to visit Salisbury and are on a budget but want a real hotel it's definitely worth a shout.

Location good but the first room we were given was freezing - it transpired the plumbing had failed recently and been repaired. They obviously didn't think to check before putting guests in the room. To their credit they were very happy to move us to a different (and better) room with no problems or extra cost.

Both rooms were clean and tidy but suffered from peeling paint on the ceilings etc, small things that can make a large imression. On departure day we were advised that the advertised cooked breakfast was unavailable. On departure no partial refund was offered for this until it was requested as we'd been obliged to have breakfast away from the hotel. This was only begrugingly offered after i complained to a very unobliging and unproffesional receptionist.

This hotel has huge potential but is really in need of a visit from the hotel inspector as it could really be a gem but falls some way short at the moment. For an historic building a stones throw from the cathedral to have no customers in the bar and just one couple in it's restaurant on a saturday night told it's own story.

Lots of history behind this hotel. Thats the best part besides the friendly staff. Other than that I can't say much for it. The shower in the bathroom leaked the entire time we were there. Wasn't the cleanest and not for the light hearted. I think it is changing owners and hopefully they will make the necessary improvements. Good location. The wall were very thin and you could hear what was going on in the next room.

We stayed in their flagship King Charles I room and were really impressed by the room and it's furnishings. The building is a romantic historical building in a great location. The staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately you will pay far far too much to stay in a hotel with poor facilities and a terrible cleaning habits.

The dead fly in our bath was still there on the third night, as was the rather large dead moth on the windowsill. The breakfast was ok but nothing speacial and for the price was less than we expected.
