Apart from visiting the Arena to see Andre Rieu, we had never been to Leeds before. From alighting from the train to returning to the station it was such a thrilling day. We loved the various arcades and the architecture, the trendy boutiques and the magnificent stores like Harvey Nicholls. I had no idea Leeds had so much to offer! We couldn't find the tourist information centre but eventually got a city map, so we will be better prepared next time. In the event, we wouldn't have had time for the cathedrals and museums; there was so much of interest around the shops! Next time we will hit the city's cultural side.

With new Leeds Trinity shopping centre and more centres being built, Leeds is the shopping mecca of the North. Rejuvinated apartments, hotels, restaurants anclubs along the Leeds-Liverpool canal and exciting Millenium Square.

Great shopping in Leeds city centre, museum and art gallery, the Armouries are well worth a visit but just a nice walk along the canal and a stop at some of the super bars makes a great afternoon.

Most surprised by how good the shopping area of Leeds is. We stayed at the Radison Blu hotel which is part of The Light centre. Very good location for the main Leeds shopping area. There is an indoor shopping arcade that is every bit as swanky as London's Burlington Arcade but is quite a bit bigger. And the Christmas decorations were really lovely. Take a look at Kirkgate indoor market which has over 800 stalls selling just about everything you could want at very good prices. There are other indoor malls to see as well as a very nice pedestrianized area just off The Headrow. The grand buildings built by the Victorians are lovely to look at and put to shame some of the modern architecture. We ate in the Red Hot Buffet & Bar before seeing Andrea Bocelli at the New First Direct Arena. The choice in the buffet is amazing and there is something for everyone's tastes all at a very reasonable price for City centre dining. It isn't fine dining but it is very tasty and has so much to choose from including a large number of deserts!!!. The new arena is pretty close to the city centre and was as good as any other arena's we have visited. Sound quality was fine and it didn't take long to get out once the concert had finished. Leeds would make a nice weekend trip. Recommended.
