We stayed at the Hotel du Vin with my parents and brother as a birthday treat for my parents.
The hotel is in a great location a short walk from St Philip's Cathedral and nearby shops. The building is the former eye hospital and is spectacular. The interior has been very effectively and sympathetically converted. My parents stayed an extra night and ate in the bistro. They had a lovely meal and enjoyed the people watching opportunities. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We made use of the valet parking service which was very convenient.
We have just two small niggles:
- the first room we were given was small and the large bed meant that I cracked my shins twice within ten minutes of checking in;
- the room was also dark with only a very small window and limited lighting.
The reception staff responded very positively when we raised our concerns and allowed us to view other rooms, one of which we chose and were very happy with. The new room was large and airy with big windows letting in lots of light and a great Juliet balcony. The room also had a fabulous walk-in shower. The room was on the interior overlooking the glass roof of a public room on the ground floor so no views but wonderfully peaceful. I still cracked my shins a couple of times which I think is due to the design of the beds.
