The Staffordshire hoard alone makes a visit here essential. There are so many gold objects, and no one knows why they were buried. The displays, especially the videos, are excellent and get you speculating what happened. To me the biggest clues are that many objects came from high status Anglo saxons and the way the gold cross was damaged. The museum also has a fine collection of ceramics and a vast number of pre-Raphaelite paintings, only a few of which are on display.
