“Reception deserve a medal! Excellent service, awful guests!”
Reviewed 9 March 2012

I have stayed a few times here and couldn't rate it more! Excellent service and luxurious decor, just what you want for a idealistic break. On our most recent stay a couple of weeks ago we were warmly greeted in the reception while waiting in the queue, behind a guest shouting at a beautiful young- and possibly new- receptionist and eventually made her cry! I am suprised Malmaison withstand such rudeness with their guests, and although signs of ''verbal abuse will not be tolerated'' were on reception, this was clearly not the case.
Service in the brasserie was excellent given we stayed at the weekend which was quite busy, couldn't help enough and excellent standards of food.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone who likes a luxurious, extra-special stay with excellent service standards, though beware of fellow guests!

stayed a couple of times in recent years. First stay we were upgraded, had a great time, lounge is very cool, people watching from the bar is fun but guys, moody lighting is one thing - people walking into stuff because it's so dark is another! Second stay, Hen night next door singing Abba tunes all night (here's an idea girls, why not GO OUT in Newcastle instead of staying in all evening?) reception were pretty good with sorting it out and it wasn't the end of the world. Great location and would stay again.

Hotel looks tired and is in need of refurbishment . No complaints regarding service, staff at reception and in the restaurant very attentive.

Overall ok, nothing special and rooms not as exciting as they look on the web.

Me And my friend stayed here for a one night pamper package for her birthday . When we checked in I asked if it was possible to have a room with a view of the millennium bridge and the lovely man on reception had a quick look and said yes . The view was fab , we kept the curtains open all night so we could see the bridge changing colours. After our facials we had food brought to our room which was a selection of sandwiches , salad and a bowl of fries . We later had cocktails in the bar and had complimentary olives and nuts brought to our table , again with a lovely view of the river . Huge choice at breakfast with excellent service . I would most certainly stay here again

I've stayed at many Malmaisons over the years and have always had a good stay. Several years ago the French elevator messages and cheeky door signs reminded me of a Babington House experience - modern and funky - cheeky and agile. I can't help feeling that the magic has been lost somewhat now. It's still a fairly pricey place to stay but feels a bit neglected and less youthful than it used to be.

Down to the nitty gritty. TV remote didn't work on arrival. No biggy but this is something that should be checked when room is cleaned / serviced n'est pas? Hairs in bathroom and tatty, used looking earbud / toiletry holders etc.

Beds are always comfortable though. Good soundproofing. Reception staff were great. Nice location. Stocked minibar. Comfortable room. Would stay again but am more tempted to look around now as Newcastle has some other great hotels.

Room Tip: waterside view is good :)

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Fog on the Tyne? Let's hope not. Otherwise you'll miss the great view of the Tyne Bridge you get from our hotel in Newcastle city centre. But then, when you're staying at Malmaison Newcastle, it's the views on the inside that tell you your boat's come in. While you're right at the heart of Newcastle's great shops and exciting nightlife, the lure of MALBAR's legendary cocktails and the Mal Brasserie's classic dishes with a twist is pretty strong. And who wants to spend all night out on the town when one hotel in Newcastle has a whole floor with a shipbuilding theme and bathtubs you could sink a battleship in? It could only be the Newcastle Mal. ... more   less
