The Slug and Lettuce in Newcastle is located in an elegant, historic building right on the Quayside and tables by the window, if you are fortunate enough to get one, have beautiful views over the River Tyne. I was there at a relatively quiet time and it was extremely pleasant. The place is very popular with hen and stag parties so I would imagine is very lively at weekends. The menu is extremely wide-ranging and there is something for virtually all tastes including vegetarian and vegan options, plus set menus and party menus. My vegetarian dish (spicy) was delicious and price good. Service was also good and I would definitely return here.

Walked to the bar, are you serving food, yes, take a menu and someone will be over, had 2 cocktails whilst we waited for a member of staff to come to our table, 2 waitresses stood against the wall chatting, my other half was waving the menu in the air, they seemed so wrapped up in conversation, 2 ladies walked in and sat down, one of the waitresses attended to them almost straight away, my other half was at this point still waving the menu in the air, one waitress came to clear a table right next to ours, but still never made contact with us, we drank our drinks and left for an establishment that we know does some very good food, and most of all we got served almost straight away even though this establishment was very busy, S&L, you've lost my custom.

Called in here on a sunny Saturday spring morning for breakfast.
This is a nicely appointed old building overlooking the river.
We chose a table near the window with river views.
The place wasn't too busy but we appeared to be invisible to one waitress who was busy nearby and didn't acknowledge our presence.
After several minutes another waitress did come over and take our order.
We had the full English breakfast and eggs Florentine which were served fairly quickly and were very good and reasonably priced.
However, throughout they had music playing which was almost blasting making it a bit difficult for conversation. This was completely inappropriate especially on a morning. If you must have music playing, let it be soft background music.
As we left another waitress thanked us for our visit which was nice of her.
Overall, this could have been a 4 or 5 star review had it not been for the aforementioned negatives.
