Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 25 November 2017 via mobile

On approaching this Cathedral you can only be impressed with this amazing building. The level of detail in the stone work and the interior of this cathedral are very impressive.
The cathedral has a good refectory servicing hot foods, cakes, coffee etc.. l highly recommend a trip here.

Thank mowden

First time we have visited this cathedral in Bury - and it is quite an amazing place. Yes it is rather a small cathedral compared to others that I have visited - like Lincoln Cathedral - and may not have that 'Big Bang' of divine holy energy - like Lincoln - but it does have a milder pleasing positive energy about it, which all cathedrals should have (unlike some new builds I have visited in the past). Lots of stained glass windows, very good architecture (despite some building/restoration works ongoing) and entry is free. Very good shop on site and when we visited on Saturday 25th Nov there was Christmas market stalls inside which made the visit even better - and had to buy some souvenirs as I am committed to supporting all good cathedrals I visit by purchasing something from their shop/shop stall to help support the running of these holy sites - as every little helps. Could well visit again in the near future when I visit this fine town of Bury!

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and we are so glad you enjoyed your visit and that you also enjoyed the Christmas stalls we have had running over the past few days as part of the town's Christmas Fayre.

Thanks also for your purchasing from our shop/stalls. Our stalls and our shop and cafe help support the running costs of the building

We hope you may be able to join in a guided tour in the warmer months and visit us again.

Best wishes,

St Eds Cathedral.

An amazing place to visit both indoors and outdoors. Indoors the beauty of the Cathedral is astounding especially when you appreciate that it is mostly quite recently finished in the 20th & 21st Centuries and work is still ongoing. When you go inside please do take a look at the ongoing build of the Lego Cathedral and buy a brick or two. Don't forget to photograph where you brick is going so when you return years later you can see your contribution to this piece of history.
Outside the gardens in the ruins of the massive original Abbey are beautiful to walk around and take a good look at the houses built into the ruins of the original walls, they are amazing.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.

We are so glad you enjoyed visiting us and thank you also for donating to our Lego Cathedral project whilst you were here. We have a great team of volunteers who help us run this project.

We hope you may be able to visit us again in the future and discover more. Our Treasury was also part of the new developments and houses church plate and books from our Ancient Library, our current exhibition is one on Luther.

A lovely cathedral with beautiful stain glassed windows. An organist was playing as we visited which made for a beautiful atmosphere. The treasury is a great development charting the history of the practices of the church through the centuries

Our Treasury has a number of interpretation boards about the history of the Cathedral and is also used as an exhibition space for books from our Ancient Library, our current exhibition is called Luther 500.

Best wishes,

I am quite at a loss to understand all the other enthusiastic reviews. The architecture is flat and banal - quite undistinguished , the newly built tower hopelessly unimaginative, the victorian stained glass is not even good of its limited kind. No sense of spirituality. There you go.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review.

We are very proud of our architecture and our Millennium Tower which represents an example of traditional craftsmanship in the modern age.

In 2010, the Vaulted Ceiling project was awarded the RIBA Spirit of Ingenuity Heritage Award for Pure Conservation of an Historic Building and many of our visitors enjoy marvelling at the beautiful colours in the design.

Many of our visitors also welcome the peaceful spiritual haven the Cathedral offers from the outside world, but we appreciate that not everyone feels the same way.

We recommend visitors take a guided tour to learn more, or ask our welcomers any questions they may have about the building.

Best wishes,

St Eds Cathedral
