We had a two night stay in The Yarn Market Hotel in June. We were given room 6, a large, well furnished room overlooking the Yarn Market building and the main street. The room was clean, fresh and tidy as indeed was the rest of the hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly.
Everything in the hotel seems to have been well thought out with nice touches including the loan of a mobile phone if needed. There’s a drying room/boot room, a cycle shed and cycle cleaning facilities, even a puncture repair outfit for those guests keen on outdoor pursuits. The hotel has negotiated a two-for-one deal with National Trust for guests visiting Dunster Castle. The “Guest Information” folder is a mine of useful information about the hotel and attractions in the surrounding area,
The hotel doesn’t have its own car park and parking is a bit of a lottery. We were lucky to find parking in the market square but in any case, the hotel provides free parking vouchers in the public car park around the corner.
We ate in the restaurant both evenings. The menu wasn’t particularly exciting but the food was well cooked and enjoyable. The meals weren’t cheap but there are other places to eat in Dunster and we’d have tried these had we been staying longer.
The breakfasts were really good. I stuck to fruit, cereals, orange juice etc. But my wife had a cooked breakfast one morning and agrees with other reviewers’ comments about the sausages!
Dunster itself is a lovely village, dominated by the castle. We spent a full day visiting the castle and exploring the village, all on foot and no need to use the car. Most of the shops are aimed at tourists but there are the usual convenience stores, supermarkets and filling stations in Minehead a couple of miles away by car.
The Yarn Market Hotel doesn’t have a bar, although wine and bottled local beers are available to diners. For those guests like me, who enjoy a good pint, I’d recommend The Luttrell Arms across the road (take a look at their Secret garden too), or The Stags Head Inn which also has a popular restaurant for locals and visitors.
