We spent 4 days in the Cheddar Gorge area and this place was just amazing. Short walk to town, a garden in the back that the owners welcome you to enjoy (great tomatoes). The bed is so comfy you don't want to get up. We are already talking of going back as we have friends who live a couple miles from there and did not even scratch the surface of things to do. Note to other Americas, bring your shampoo, shower gel, etc as the cottage did not supply.
Kitchen had everything you needed and then some. Just a perfect get away place.

“Cosy eco-cottage with beautiful views, perfectly located to explore Somerset.”
Reviewed 20 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Gorge View has been carefully renovated to create a comfortable eco-cottage that provides all amenities one could hope for in a short or long stay. The owners were friendly and helpful and make you feel very welcome, even allowing guests to explore their permaculture garden and borrow bicycles from the shed. The cottage is located outside the bustle of Cheddar (which can be very touristy and a little chintzy) in a quieter area of the town. Happily this puts you in direct views of the Gorge but only a few minutes walk from all the shops, pubs, etc. There's ample parking, and this is a really great base to explore the surrounding area: Bristol, Bath, Wells, Glastonbury, the Somerset Levels, coast and the Mendips are all a short drive (or in some cases, walk or bike ride) away.

“Warm, comfortable and home from home”
Reviewed 27 February 2014 for a stay in January 2014

My fiance and I stayed at Gorge View Cottage for two weeks while he was studying at Bristol Ground School in the village and it was lovely! We were there through some horrid weather but I felt so comfortable and relaxed in the cottage I didn't mind at all being inside on my own all day. There are good facilities in the centre of the village which is a pleasant short walk away and the cottage is stocked with a well equipped kitchen so I enjoyed baking and cooking every day. I very much enjoyed having the log burner and all of the eco and composting facilities,I found we had very little General waste at the end of each week. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower had good water pressure ( I can't stand a dribbley shower!) Having a strong fast WiFi connection was import and for my fiance's studies so that was very helpfull. If we are ever at this end of the country, we'll definitely stay again.

“Beautiful, tranquil, home from home”
Reviewed 12 December 2013 for a stay in April 2013

A really beautiful place to stay, we were a minutes walk from the heart of cheddar but so quiet and peaceful. An amazing view to wake up to. The amenities, cleanliness could not be faulted. It really was like a home from home, and we even told the owners that if we had the money we would make them an offer to buy it from them!

We walk along both sides of the gorge in pouring rain, got back to the cottage, showered, grabbed a takeaway and spent the evening playing board games in front of the log fire. Idyllic!

“A Cottage right in the heart of Cheddar, yet quiet.”
Reviewed 22 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

One of the amazing things about Gorge View Cottage is that it is 2 minutes walk from the centre of the beautiful & interesting village of Cheddar. The cottage is on a hill overlooking Cheddar and so itself is quiet day & night. There is a 30 second walk up/down a slope to the village (or a slightly longer -6 minute- walk avoiding the steep hill). There is plenty to do in Cheddar with the caves, cheese making, sweet making demos, Fortes, Costa Coffee & 5 pubs all 2 or 5 minutes walk from the cottage. There is also a small shop & buses to Wells & Weston -Super-Mere just 5 mins walk away. So it's a relaxing hoilday with no need to drive at all. As others have said, the cottage has all the modern items - TV/DVD, cooker, microwave, fridge, shower. free wi fi/internet etc. There are wonderful views of the countryside and Cheddar from the windows on all sides of the cottage. Wonderful stay.
