Yes that's right my followers and friends, Joe Alves is back for a Christmas Special, ready to cast his critiquing eye upon more of Bath's finest restaurants and cafe's. My ventures into higher education mean that you've been void of my firm but fair reviews for the last few months, for which i can only apologise. Nevertheless i'm back and ready to deliver you your monthly fix, and as a special festive treat folks i'm here with two... YES TWO reviews as an early Christmas present for my loyal fan base.

The first visit on my return to action was to The Green Bird Cafe, a small yet cosy cafe which is tucked away into one of Bath's charming back streets, but this only adds to its allure. As an independent cafe which comes highly recommended among the good folk of Bath, i expected a warm welcome upon entrance, and i was most delighted when my expectations were met by reality. The establishment has a very comforting feel, with a traditional, wooden decor providing the backdrop for a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, which makes this cafe the perfect destination for a warming coffee or tea on a cold winters day. Moreover, the uniqueness of this cafe is conveyed through the subtle art which perfectly compliments the Nordic style which is consistent throughout.

But this cafe has more than just a pretty face; it's not style over substance, it's a sensational combination of the two. The seating is spacious, with a few outside tables making the cafe a well rounded article, while the staff were friendly, warm, and of course polite, providing exemplary service. Most importantly though the food was second to none. With a range of breakfasts, sandwiches, panini's, and coffees, this cafe has all of your culinary needs covered. It's all beautifully presented, while the prices are reasonable given the quality of the food. As a customer of the award winning Bertinet Bakery, the bread used for soups and open sandwiches is sublime which only adds to the credentials of this elegant cafe. The menu is well crafted, as it's broad enough to offer ample excitement, but not so extensive as to overwhelm the customer, therefore striking a wonderful balance.

The Green Bird Cafe is Award Winning for a reason; it delivers proper, hearty grub that comes from the soul, with a cosy atmosphere and warm staff making this cafe a real bobby dazzler. It's hard to stand out in the booming cafe industry, which is crammed full of very talented artisan baristas and chefs, but this little gem has a rightful place at the peak of the Bath cafe market. Top stuff all round boys, girls, transgender folk, and Apache Attack Helicopters.

This place is a little hidden gem. We had a lovely breakfast (sourdough toast with cream cheese and tomatoes from the Isle of Wight, porridge with toasted almonds and local honey) served with amazing coffee: we could not resist buying some to carry home. Friendly service and reasonable prices too. Highly recommended!

Me and my partner stumbled across this cafe on one of our walks and what a find. The first time we had a ham and cheese toasty on sourdough bread, I had tea and my partner a latte, everything was delicious, and very friendly staff. We decided we liked it so much the next day we walked out of our way to go here. Great food, (I can reccomend the frangipane mince pies) great service. We were also surprised to find the cost very reasonable, we went to another cafe on route home and couldn't help compare the quality of food (or lack of) and the price in comparison to what we paid here, 2 great sandwiches coffee and large pot of tea for £16 great value

We were only looking for coffee but there was a Viennese Whirl calling to me! So tasty with a great cappuccino. We will be back for a full breakfast because they look great. Very friendly welcoming staff in a funky environment! Loved it!

A real find for breakfast whilst staying over in Bath for some Christmas shopping with my daughter. Scrummy well priced food, but lost a star as far as I was concerned due to one of the surly staff members - I will be charitable and put this down to her being stressed out over the constant stream of people wanting to dine there, but having to be turned away due to lack of places.
