Owner description: A vintage and curious cocktail bar found in some of Bath's unique vaults; we're in the heart of this World Heritage City. A quirky and delightful secret for the lucky few that venture to find it, Opium is tucked away under the landmark Pulteney Bridge much like the old Laudanum and Opiate dens of the Victorian era. The bar is stocked with a wide range of International beers and spirits and staffed by bartenders who can mix and concoct these ingredients into the most wondrous (and affordable) cocktails you've ever indulged in. It's easy to imagine yourself in the company of Sherlock Holmes, H.G Wells, Janis Joplin or William Burroughs as you sip your perfectly made cocktail. £5 for any cocktail Tues-Thurs , Friday until 8 pm.Check out the secret room for parties. Popped in for a drink and only stayed for one. The inside is nicely done out, good selection of drinks, but it was quite cold and damp inside, could do with some heating in winter

Opium Bar is hidden away in a cellar arch near Pulteney Bridge. I've visited twice now; there's a page of cocktails that are available for £5 each during "happy hour", as well as a list of the classics. The cocktail menu is well put together but when you look behind the bar you'll see the absolute basic quality of the ingredients that are used (brands you will find discounted in every supermarket) and you'll understand why the cocktail are so cheap.

Having said that, Opium is still worth a visit, if only for the rich, decadent decor, which, as the name of the bar suggests, is redolent of a turn-of-the-century den...think dark corners, smoky incense, and quirky design touches. Life-sized statues of Jake and Elwood from the Blues Brothers, anyone? Dusty foot-pumped player pianos? Yeah!

So...Opium is probably designed for the student crowd who want somewhere funky and down-home without breaking the bank. If that fits the bill, you can't go wrong - just don't expect to be wowed by the quality of the drinks.

Visited on a quiet Wednesday night and it was pretty busy with students. Very good value earlier in the night when cocktails are £5 each.

The decor is edgy and original. Vintage furniture and majestic ceiling art!
The bar is a little out of place and hard to find and due to it being underground it was quite cold..
Apart from that the service was brilliant and he cocktails were amazing, strong and tasty not like other cocktail bars.
Fab experience over all!

Good to find a slightly alternative bar tucked away from the high street. Good cocktails and a chilled atmosphere for an evening drink.
