My husband and I have just returned from a three night stay to visit the Christmas market. We arrived later than expected, after a very stressful eight hour journey! Having read previous reviews regarding the car parking situation, we were fully expecting to have an issue when we arrived. We did however, find a space in the car park, which the very helpful security guard helped us manoeuvre into.

We were booked in at reception by Jack, who was extremely friendly and helpful. There was plenty of information on the Christmas markets, hot chocolate and free mince pies. Unfortunately, because of the lateness of our arrival, the only double room available for us was on the third floor and on the side of the hotel that had the work going on. Jack explained that the window of our room was boarded up due to health and safety reasons in case of fire. We were a little concerned at the thought of this, but decided to go with it. The boarding was on the outside of the window, and we were able to open the window a little bit for some air. If you are claustrophobic, this might not be the best option for you, but to be honest, as we were only ever in the hotel room at night, we could cope with it with no problem. The only strange thing was waking up in the morning in total darkness and not knowing what the weather was like outside! On the flip side of that, because the room is so dark we both slept a lot better than we normally do! Jack also gave us a substantial discount on the price of the room, free car parking, and complimentary drinks from the bar to compensate.

The breakfast in the morning was superb, and far better than we were expecting from a Holiday Inn-express hotel. There was a selection of branded cereals, fresh croissants and muffins, and hot food from the buffet that was well cooked and always fresh. Several four-star hotels I have stayed in previously could learn a lot from this hotel, especially when it comes to scrambled eggs!

Every member of staff that we came across was extremely polite friendly and went out of their way to be genuinely helpful.

The room was spotlessly clean the bed was very comfortable and the room was plenty big enough to include a sofa and small table. The only issue I have, and this seems to be a growing trend in hotel rooms nowadays, is there is never enough wardrobe storage space. Hotel designers seem to be going for the sleek modern look, which doesn’t include old-fashioned chests of drawers and proper wardrobes. Therefore you live out of a suitcase for a few days which isn’t the end of the world I know, but personally I do prefer to unpack! There is also no plug socket or chair near the mirror for doing hair and make up - but the hair dryer in the room had the longest lead i have ever seen so reached ok!!!

The hotel is a pleasant 10 to 15 minutes stroll into the centre along a well marked, safe route. We didn’t need to move our car for the three days that we were there.

To summarise, this is a conveniently situated, reasonably priced hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable and the breakfast superb. Yes there is building work going on at the moment, but this needn’t really impact on your stay.

Would I stay there again-absolutely!

Dear LizzieR1963,

Wow! Thank you for taking the time to write your detailed review of our hotel.

It’s fantastic to know that Jack and the team made a great impression on you both – everyone will be delighted. We thought a lovely hot chocolate and mince pie would be a nice festive welcome!

We’re over the moon that you enjoyed our Express Start breakfast. The difficult part is choosing what to go for. Scrambled eggs on toast? A bacon bap? Sausage sandwich? Croissant and jam? Decisions decisions…

We’d love to welcome you back to Bath again soon!

Best wishes,
Lindsey B

I booked hotel in October for spa weekend. Then tried to cancel as one of my children has got to have a MRI SCAN for a suspicious lump on the same day. The spa were brilliant and said I could rebook at any time no charge not the hotel not a penny would they give back it's not as if They wouldn't be able to resell room as very busy time of year . We will not ever be booking with booking .com or holiday inn again.

I am not normally one that reviews on here but I had such a good experience that I felt I needed to.
From the moment we arrived we had food service with someone helping us to park out car, the checking in was easy and all staff were friendly.
I went for the Christmas markets (which were fabulous!) and there was a lady there giving out info on the markets and maps, they even gave a hot chocolate and candy canes which was a lovely touch!
The room itself was good size and very clean.
And breakfast was simple but food and as much hot drinks etc as you want which was handy on a cold morning!
I feel this hotel is great value for money! Thank you Holiday express you exceeded my expectations by far!

We stayed for 1 night on the opening weekend of the Christmas market. The room was nice, bathroom a bit small but had everything you need. Breakfast was good and there was plenty of choice, friendly waiting staff especially Louis who we had a chat with, we also saw him talking with other guests. Would stay again if we are in the area.

Stayed for 1 night , had 2 rooms, we got what we expected and reserved 1 double and 1 twin.
The receptionist was very friendly and efficient.
The hotel was having some building work done but there was no disruption.

The rooms were neat, modern and tidy a little on the smallish side but didn't bother us.
We were lucky and managed to get a parking space out the front, but parking could be a problem.
The room came with breakfast which was very nice and plentiful.
Location for the centre ie Christmas market and baths was 10-15 mins walk.
I've stayed at both chains holiday Inn express and premier Inn, premier Inn has the edge I feel.
Overall was pleased with our stay, comfortable hotel , with friendly staff.
