This tiny museum has many micro exhibits due to lack of space and survives mainly on admissions. We used the old hand cancel stamper, learned that the famous Half Penny Black first came from Bath, etc. The staff is quite helpful as well.

We did not get off to a good start since the man at the desk was giving an animated talk about the museum to the girls in front of us and we had to wait for ages before he was prepared to sell us tickets. However, once we got over that problem, the museum was very interesting and well set out. There were interesting videos of actors playing people involved in the early times of Bath's postal service. You could listen to the different post horn sounds which were played from the stage coach to indicate all sorts of different manoeuvres. You could use an old dial telephone to listen to voices and quality from the 1930s, 1940s, etc. We saw old post boxes and stamp machines. There was information about famous personalities who were enthusiastic stamp collectors. Near the end we reached a video narrated by Richard Briers about the history of communication. Sadly by this time the man at the reception desk had turned round and was talking loudly to a girl standing close to the video screen. I started to watch the history of writing video which I eventually gave up on since I couldn't hear it for the loud voice of the man at the reception desk. The museum itself is definitely worth 4 or 5 stars but I only give it 3 because, as I explained above, the experience was rather spoilt for me.

Excellent! Highly recommended. Only small but so much of interest. A must. Would return as they may have new items on show.

Funny little place accessed down the stairs (stairlift available) from the foyer of the post office.
It would presumably be fascinating for any postal history buffs but it was interesting enough to pass an hour or two, and they had made an effort to provide children's activities too.
Probably not worth a special trip unless you have a particular interest, but a nice little museum if you're passing.
