“Outstanding service, amazing food and beautiful gardens!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2012

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at The Bath Priory for 3 nights last week, and I can't recommend it enough! We stayed in 'honeysuckle' an enormous and luxurious room which overlooked the garden. The room was spotless and incredibly quiet, and the bed was very comfortable- we slept like babies! The service throughout the hotel is really worth mentioning- it is outstanding and personal, and the little touches like a complimentary newspaper, turn down service and birthday card really made us feel special. We enjoyed an amazing dinner in the restaurant- in fact the food was by far the best I have ever had, and the staff and sommelier were both incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We were also lucky enough with the weather to be able to enjoy the beautiful gardens (this hotel is worth visiting just to see the gardens!) as well as the outdoor pool, and both of us returned home feeling totally refreshed, pampered and relaxed. Just perfect!

Room Tip: Honeysuckle is a bright and light room with gorgeous views of the garden. Very quiet too.

I took my husband here for two nights to celebrate his special birthday. The moment you walk in you feel relaxed. The staff were most courteous, friendly, and helpful. They even remembered our names and room name, which on such a short break was amazing. We chose Magnolia for our room, which was lovely and airy and overlooked the garden and terrace. Breakfast was beautifully cooked to order and well presented. Dinner was excellent, the influence of Michael Caines is very evident. It is unbelievable that it does not have a Michelin star - one would be well deserved! There is a spa and outside heated pool available to guests, which we did not use. Maybe next time! A guest preference sheet was emailed to me at the time of booking which enabled me to chose everything prior to arriving. For example spa treatments, extra hangers, champagne in the room. In fact anything that would make your stay comfortable. Would undoubtedly recommend this hotel - a little piece of paradise.

Room Tip: Magnolia was wonderful - spacious, light and overlooking the picturesque garden.

Firstly I have to say we have eaten here a few times, perhaps six or seven, but as yet have never stayed so my comments are not about the rooms. So, what can I say, located just 5 mins out of Baths congested centre in a quite residential area just up from the park, its easy to overlook if you don't know its there. However if like me your a little bit of a foodie then you will no doubt already know of its excellent reputation. If you arrive on a sunny day ask to have your pre lunch drinks on the terrence, its lovely and hard to believe your in a city. The staff really do make you feel welcome, everyone without exception we have met (and we have met a few!) seem genuinely interested in serving you, unlike so many places where you feel its just a part time job they cant wait to finish. The food is consistently good, sometimes excellent and the comprehensive if a tad pricy wine list has something for everyone. I have little doubt that we will be returning soon, or at least as soon as my bank account allows :-)

Room Tip: Drinks on the terrence on a sunny day is wonderful, also check out the smaller 'snack' menu...

We arrived at the hotel around 3.30 in the afternoon to be welcomed by a gentleman in the car park who asked to park our car and take the luggage ! What a start. We were checked in very swiftly and taken to one of the newly refurbished Suites. We had stayed before and knew the building well. Our Suite "Campden" was sumptously furnished and decorated, with everything you could want in a Suite, complimentary Sherry, coffee machine, a large bowl of exotic fruit, the list goes on.

Both bedrooms were beautiful and our son's bedroom had a personalised colouring book and pencils.

We went for a swim in the spa which was very clean and fairly quiet, and we then decided to go out in the outdoor pool which was surprisingly warm and secluded behind some shrubs.

We had a quick drink on the terrace before we went out for dinner with friends, this had been planned some weeks before, but we did come back and have dessert and cheese in the lounge with a lovely glass of dessert wine. The ladies knowledge of cheese was unbelieveble. She was chatting to us and telling us she had been to the dairy farm where the cheese was made, she was clearly very passionate about her cheese! Great Service!!

We came back to the room and eveything was turned down, my jumper which I had thrown on the bed before we went out was very proffessionally folded and back on the bed. Our sons bed was also turned down and a lovely touch of a small bowl of sweets next to his bed, which he loved the idea of ! All the towels had been replaced by fresh ones.

Breakfast was a delight as before, cold meats, cheeses, a full buffet and the freshest Orange Juice you could ever taste. Cooked breakfast was more than perfect, and just the right portion size, with thick creamy scrambled egg to die for.

We had a last wonder around the grounds perfectly manicured gardens and then left. The only downside is that we wish we had stayed longer !

Things could not have been more perfect and I am very fussy!

Room Tip: Stay int he newly refubished Suites - They are amazing

Room: Spacious room, fruit on arrival, good comfortable bed, cheap shower fittings however - not what you expect in hotel in this chain. Had to sleep with window open at front of hotel as room was so hot - needs air conditioning! Had to sleep all night with fan on.

Food: Ate off their early supper menu. Better value at half price of normal menu and same standard of foo. Small portions but food was very good. Service at dinner excellent.

Spa: This was perhaps the most disappointing part. Nicely done but there is only a sauna, steam room and pool that you can barely swim in. The spa would benefit from better positioned chairs and more luxurious seating. It wasn't really a place you could relax in. Maybe some jugs of water and fresh fruit would improve the spa.

Breakfast: Was average. Fresh juice was nice and good quality ingredients. Would benefit from some nicer fruits on buffet table e.g. Fresh berries.

Overall: Quite expensive for what it's offering and can't help thinking it's feeding off Gidleigh Park. We have found better value elsewhere e.g. Lucknam park. Unfortunately we wouldnt return here choosing to come elsewhere.
