I have been to most of the pubs in the Shrewsbury area. None come close to the quality of food that is provided at the Dun Cow. The menu is extensive and the chef is well seasoned. Whether you are looking for something small, something large or something a little different, the Dun Cow does not disappoint.
You can have food in the restaurant area, or in the pub. If you are lucky to visit on a day when it is warm and sunny, then the extensive decking area to the side of the pub is a great place to sit, relax dine and enjoy a pint or 2.
Value for money is excellent.

This is a truly ancient pub building, with exposed timbers and higgledy-piggledy walls, ceiling and steps, worn down with the passage of time. Part of the plaster has been removed to show the actual mediaeval wattle-and daub construction inside the walls. I have been for a quick lunch several times, amongst the regulars propping up the bar with their pints of ale. The salmon fishcakes are hot and fluffy, and the home-made soup with cheesy toast is great comfort food. Cheap, too. In the evening, there is a steakhouse restaurant behind the bar area, with juicy steaks and all the trimmings. There is a beer-garden terrace area to drink or dine on summer evenings. Unpretentious, atmospheric and very good value.
