A typical museum visit where you walk around and look at fixed displays of models etc. Not very inspiring

We thought a river boat trip and a visit to this museum would be a good start to our 10 day visit to this area and we felt we had made the right decision. We arrived at 10.00 am so had no problem getting parked but can see how, during high season or at weekends, the car park could get really busy. The diorama of Ironbridge really shows how busy and important this area was and why it deserves to be a World Heritage site. The Tourist Information Centre is in the same building. Worthwhile starting a visit here before visiting the other areas mentioned in the museum in more detail.

We made things harder I know by arriving at noon on a day in the middle of the school holidays, but parking at this museum was a nightmare. Unlike some of the others, this car park is run by the local council, and being in the middle of town it is obviously heavily used by locals who probably find us visitors most irritating as we drive in circles around their car park.
Having finally parked, we spend an excellent couple of hours here. The area is beautiful, and this museum is a great introduction to the region, its industry and in particular the importance of the River Severn. Recommended.

The Museum provides a useful introduction to the history of Ironbridge and its development as a centre of industry. Main highlight was the large screen video and good quality soundtrack. It shares the same building as the Tourist Information Centre which makes it a good starting point for a visit to Ironbridge.
