The majority of the site was shut as other reviews have also stated. The chips in the chip shop where also incredibly expensive and were actually horrible.

We have been to beamish museum previously and expected similar quality but we learnt nothing new and the staff were more interested in each other than the visitors.

As with most museums now it was all about making money. The bread is lovely but you don't see how it's made neither do you see the sweets being made (you do in beamish), if I wanted pear drops I can go my local shop.

I remember coming here as a child and loving it. I am so disappointed, especially that they don't have the school lessons on a weekend when the majority of people with be there!

Such a shame and a lot of money!

Visited Blists Hill in the seventies and eighties with the school, now I've taken the family. When purchasing a passport, it took us four days to see all the museums, but this was one place we re-visited each day. If anyone did go here with the school years ago, you will find there are places you can no longer go, such as the furnaces and bellows room, these are fenced off due for health and safety, but there is more to see. I can particularly recommend the bakery and fish and chip shop, but aim to be there around mid-day - it takes a while for them to get cooking, but once they have they sell out quickly! Also if you have a disabled person in your group, don't worry about how they will climb the hay incline plane - they have provided a lift to take people up to the canal

We took a day trip by coach to Blists Hill last December. I wanted to get a Christmassy feeling going and it was a lovely trip to make. First of all, it was colder than where we live and I am glad I put some warm clothes on.
Part of the trip was to see Ironbridge too. But the coach driver didn't realise he was suppose to drop us off at the bridge and go back to the car park. It was his first trip with the coach company. We didn't get as close a view as we should of but we did see it.
The Victorian town is not too far away and we arrived to be welcomed by a group of singing Victorian ladies. All the helpers wear period costumes and mill about making it look just like a town. There are horse and cart rides but unfortunately we missed out on one as they finished early that day. There are shops dealing in old money which you can exchange modern money in the bank there and spend the old money as you go around. Of course you don't have to do this as they take modern money too. There was a television series on the Victorian Pharmacy on the BBC recently. They took modern day pharmacists and put them in the Victorian Pharmacy to make and sell medicines as they did in the day. That is well worth watching if you can find it on i player.
There is a forge and demos of making horse shoes and other items. There were donkey rides at the bottom of the village. It was such a lovely day out and we had plenty of time there not too rushed. I would recommend this village to anybody and it would be good for young children as well as teens as they can all learn the way we used to live. There are also two cafes, not cheap but then you are a captive audience. There are places to eat your own food if the weather is good. The cafe down the bottom of the village had helpers in Victorian dress playing the piano and singing whilst we ate lunch. As it was nearly Christmas, it as mostly carols but it really gave a warm feeling to the room. All in all we thought it was great.
