“What a great view of Sheffield!”
Review of Meersbrook Park

Last July was the first time I visited this park and I can assure you it won't be the last. When you get to the top, the view of the city is magnificient and if it's not that windy you can have a hell of a good time admiring every corner of Sheffield.

The only problem is that it's in one of the hills of the city and if someone uses a wheelchair or has mobility problems it can be really tiring, otherwise the walks around the park are splendid.

Apart from the view at the top of the park there's a surprise which awaits you, the Bishop's House. A wonderful example of past architecture typical in many parts of England. When I arrived there it was closed so I'll have to come back to see it well.

Sheffield has lots of parks but this one boasts of its high location which allows visitors to admire the "steel city".

Myself and partner visit here regularly with our 3 children aged 3, 19m and 7m. We live at the opposite end if the city closer to Chesterfield but there's no decent parks near us at all but are more than happy to travel when's we find somewhere nice. It is our "go to" park for weekend evenings after work as it's always empty and it's completely closed off. All equipments is brilliant for our age children, they'd spend all day here and we feel comfortable enough to let them run off and play without having to stay right behind Gem constantly. Equipment could do with an update and refresh but it doesn't appear that anything is broke, just a little old and outdated. Also lots of other stuff to do, skate park, courts and loads of fields for picnics! Recommend if you are passing or want a quiet park to visit!

Fantastic location and a great view of Sheffield.

Has lots of different areas to it- the top part feels a lot more wild and simple than the bottom part and there is a wooded area too.

Tucked away just outside the centre of the city.

Came here volunteers were very rude. Didnt want children in THEIR garden.
Seems they only want families in to go for special events to give them money for their own project to be enjoyed by them and them alone. God forbid families enjoy the community garden at other times.

On the plus side the park itself is nice if you can manage the slope. Nice play area. Could be an enjoyable few hours spent with children of you forget the walled garden area, otherwise prepare for verbal abuse.

We visited on the 18/10 as a couple looking to see what else this fine city of ours had to offer us. We had heard of this place a good while back but have never had the time to be able to visit properly but fortunately, we had that gift this month.

The views:
WOW! So much so that we actually want to buy a bench so that other people in public can enjoy that first glimmer of our beautiful city high from high up on the vantage point. Amazing! We can imagine that it's a complete delight when snow hits and sledging can begin.

When we visited, the walled garden was closed (shame) but looked very nice indeed through our peeking via the gate. We didn't really see much else to do however but it's a wonderful walk round to air the lungs and refresh the head for our liking.

Bishop's House:
The 2nd main reason why we visited in the first place.. which was shut!
Therein lies the dilemma for us. It should be open. People cannot only afford a weekend to visit, especially on a sunday so it's not getting the full credit it deserves.
It's beautifully maintained though we have to say and it was a pleasure walking round the house outside and having an observe at what delights may well hide inside. For that reason alone, the park drops another star unfortunately.

We have many beautiful gem buildings in the city // ALL of which should be open to the public to enjoy at times when it is convenient for US and not just for those who can attend on minimal days of the week.
