Been today to view the rubble of what was once the Don Valley Stadium. At it's best time it served it's purpose but unfortunately Sheffield council under invested in this place which has potential to be a lot more and hold big events.

It served as home to RUFC until the New York Stadium was built which was the last real use this site got.

The best thing for this place was to be knocked down, built in complety wrong area of Sheffield

The Don Valley stadium is quite a small stadium compare to The Emirates, Old Trafford etc. In my own estimation it can sit just about 10000 fans. However it is clean and properly maintained stadium.

Built for the World Student Games probably two decades ago, Don Valley Arena was built on the brownfield site of one of Sheffields now defunct steel works.
The track is all weather and I understand the stands hold up to 50,000 spectators, and Don Valley has long been the training venue of International athletes (it's where Jessica Ennis trained daily), primarily because the English Institute for Sport decided to locate itself next door because of its athletic facilities.
The centre green has on and off hosted football and rugby clubs as there home ground (Rotherham United FC and Sheffield Eagles RC.
In its other guise as 'Sheffield International Venues' it has also been the venue for some major rock concerts over the years, notably the Rolling Stones and U2, so you can imagine the size of the place.
But the bad news is....due to the financial issues caused by the Banksters, Don Valley, which apparently costs the City £700k a year to run, is now the victim of a closure order and is in the process of being wound down, against the wishes of the majority of Sheffielders.
So...if you want to see it, you will have to get here before November 2013, because it will be well on the way to being gone by then.
A real shame.
Hope this helped

We have been to see several artists here and the facilities are great for that kind of event. It's convenient location - close to Sheffield town centre is really good for train links etc (short taxi ride) if you don't want to have the hassle of parking
