Lovely property in a perfect location, close to many bars and restaurants. Owners were very helpful. Much better than any hotel for our purposes. We parked the car up and didn't need to use it again. Proper little home from home in a fantastic area of oxford, would definitely stay again!

“Lovely Cottage”

We really enjoyed our stay in this very English little cottage. It was very easy to deal with the owner. On-line payment, very quick response to questions, with key box no issue about arranging time to get in or out. Very clean. Bathroom has both a deep tub and shower and towel warmer. The master bedroom is a good size with a small walk-in closet and abundance of clothes hangers. The bed is not an American king size, but rather a queen size. Very comfortable and warm comforter and mattress. The bedroom with the two twin size beds does not have a closet to hang clothes, only a dresser and a couple of hooks on the door. A snug fit for adults.
The kitchen is very well equipped with everything, including dishwasher. Also some basics like sugar and the first couple of days' sugar and tea is there. Very much appreciated that there was dish soap and laundry detergent (buying a big box for a one time washing seems excessive, so this was great). The washer/dryer unit in the downstairs toilet is very convenient, also big sink for hand washing clothes. There is no dining table, but bar seating for four. A small couch for two and two small easy chairs.
The internet worked great! We had to do work and it never failed. TV channels limited, but you can play all kinds of things. We did not even investigate the music and other electronic offerings. Some books there also.
Location is great. 20 minutes walk to downtown. Around the corner any amount of pubs, restaurants, stores, and on the way to town several grocery stores. We did not use the bicycles offered, because it was raining a lot.
Parking made easy with parking permits supplied. One night we had to park in the parallel street around the corner, because Plantation Road was full. It is a one-way street from Woodstock and very narrow. It is very picturesque, though.
Things to consider when you rent this:
- The stairs are very steep, uneven and narrow (it's an old building after all). You might want to consider that, if you have issues with walking.
- No desk for working. You will have to use the kitchen bar.
- No outlet in bathroom for hair dryer. In master bed room you have to plug in behind the dresser, to have a mirror for doing hair and in the 2nd bedroom is no mirror, but outlets more accessible!
- Heat has to be adjusted on the boiler in the kitchen (instructions in drawer in the kitchen for all appliances). It was very cold and rainy when we arrived, as well as jet lagged, and we needed to heat.
All in all a great place to spend time in Oxford and feel like you really are in England! We hope to stay there again, if our travels take us back. I wish the weather had permitted to use the lovely little backyard for meals!

“Best way to visit Oxford,”
Reviewed 7 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

I live in Oxford, and rented this house for my family when they came to visit me this September. This was our first time with a rental property, as we usually book hotels. This means I've seen the rooms at many of the hotels in the city of Oxford. None of them come close to the quality of this rental house. For cheaper than most of the hotels, you get a whole house, with a fully equipped kitchen, TV, sofas, two bedrooms, wardrobes and dressers, and a massive bathroom. Not to mention the dishwasher and washing machine, included Wi-Fi, tea and biscuits waiting for us at arrival, garden with sitting area and bicycles! It's honestly the best way to visit Oxford, and I will definitely be renting it again when I next have visitors.

The area around the house is also perfect for a stay in Oxford. A walk to the main attractions in the center (like some of the largest, oldest colleges or museums like the Ashmolean) takes 15-20 minutes, and follows Walton Street, which is full of restaurants that do very good lunch deals. There are also multiple grocery stores within a 20 minute walk. If you plan to explore Oxford on foot, this is a perfect spot to start from.

There is also a lot to be said for the manager of the property. We arrived a bit lost and confused, and couldn't quite figure out the heating. Liz had already provided us with her mobile number, and upon being contacted offered to be there within minutes to help us. Later in our stay, we had an accident with a broken mirror, and again she was very helpful with an issue that was by all means a problem we caused to her.

A few more words about each part of the house:
- Living room: one sofa, two couches, and a TV. There are also bookcases, with a small library and a few board games, plenty of coffee tables, and good lighting. Very comfy!
- Kitchen: all the appliances you need (coffee press, electric kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, freezer, oven, hob) plus all the tools (bread knife, cutting board, spatulas, pots and pans, oven trays) and all the cutlery (wine and champagne glasses, tons of mugs for tea and coffee, plates of various sizes).
- Bedrooms: one of much smaller than the other, but both have amazingly comfortable beds, and enough storage for those who don't travel light. The heating works very well, and the duvets are very warm!
- Bathroom: We didn't try the bathtub, the shower has hot water with plenty of water pressure, as does the sink. There's a mirror cabinet too.
- Other: there is also a small garden, with a shed (which in our case had two bikes available for our use), and a downstairs bathroom with a washing machine and large sink.

A few counter-indications: the stairs to the second level are steep. While this is pretty standard for Oxford, it might be good to consider if you have limited mobility. The house is also near the relatively busy Walton street, and all the windows open to other roads or close to other houses. The price you pay for being walking distance to the city centre is a relative lack of privacy.
