Owner description: The main buildings at Hertford College are linked together by a corridor called the "Bridge of Sighs," built in 1913-14 and named after the Ponte dei Sospiri in Venice.

This looks such a pretty sight. It was built so students didn't have to break the curfew at night, and could still travel between the buildings. It looks very atmospheric in the evenings.

Google bridge of sighs and you will see it is horizontal. Google rialto and you will see that this oxford feature is based on the rialto. Just annoy the tourist guide when they take you around Oxford

This Bbridge gives you the idea of connection between buildings but also ages. it is a symbol for Oxford at the point where you find connectiosn among schools inside the university. it connects you to the past but also connects you to the future with all the students that passes under, over and in front of it. and they are the symbol of the presente and of the future

The bridge of sighs is an interesting architectural feature. It is. named after the Venice bridge. Best viewed from New College . One sees the Radcliffe Camera behind the Bridge.
