We stayed here for a couple of nights over Easter. There is not much wrong and for £75 per night for a family room what can you expect?? However in a travel inn at this price point the staff smile but at the crown and cushion you don't see a smile from anyone.

Our room was in the coach house. Ok, fairly clean, not outstanding. The shower over the bath was hopeless. Boiling hot or freezing cold. Not ideal when washing kids. The bed was comfy, a 4 poster type. We slept ok. It did the job in a disappointingly average way.

Breakfast was ok. Average in a disappointingly average way. The scrambled egg arrived with no toast, that took a further 15 mins. The baked beans ran out, perhaps because my kids had them for dinner the night before as a special order. (the staff obliged for this)

The evening meal, meat pie for myself and my wife, was ok. Disappointing average. Slow to arrive. The kids had lasagne this night. It was better than the meat pie. The bill was ok when it eventually arrived.

The pool was warm. A bit grubby though but you don't get a pool in a £75 travel inn.

To conclude. The crown and cushion is ok. Average in everyway. Don't expect more because you won't get it. Chipping Norton is lovely though so it is well positioned and for the money what can you expect?? Perhaps I would feel differently if this hotel gave you the feeling anyone cared about it. I don't think they do.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my husband and son .Yes the rooms are a little dated but are clean and warm with all you need .Ate 2 nights in the bar and the food was good and plentiful .A mention must go to the staff who are pleasant and hard working .Some rude visitors were most impatient and rude but they still remained cheerful and polite .Well worth the money we paid to book with Expedia .

We stayed in Room 1 which was spacious and beautifully prepared for our use. The en suite was also spacious and there were plenty of fluffy bath towels and toiletries. Nice 4 windowed view over the High Street - all double glazed. Room includes convenient secure private parking as well as breakfast. The bed was really comfortable and I slept like a log.

Breakfast was fantastic. One excellent waitress was attentive (but not too much) there were cereals, fruit juices etc plus choices of main breakfast. I had the full English which was one of the best I've ever had and included the usuals plus black pudding, hash browns lovely button mushrooms and a tasty egg. I couldn't improve on it. Finally toast, butter, marmalade or preserves (or both) and a refreshing pot of tea. 10/10 to the breakfast team.

All the staff were very polite and attentive and everywhere was spotless. There might have been more tea and coffee sachets in the room - though I'm sure we would have been able to get more if we'd asked.

For £59 all in for us both the value is superb. True some of the fabric needs a little updating but that is nit-picking. At this price you usually get Travelodge poor quality.

We will stay again the next time we are in Chippy and we have recommended the Crown and Cushion to all our friends.

A lovely stay which we look forward to repeating.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in March 2012. The hotel is an old coaching inn and certainly has potential. But it needs a lot of money spending on it: it looks tired, as though it were last properly maintained about thirty years ago.

On the plus side, it was clean and our bedroom was well serviced. On the down side, the furniture was worn, both the bath and basin plug chains were broken, and some key corridor lights didn't seem to work making it perilous to navigate a corridor with several short flights of stairs in the dark.

The staff were almost all from overseas with a limited grasp of English. They were willing but seemed poorly trained. If we asked them for something, then once they'd understood what we needed it was provided, but several times things weren't right first time - eg we had a water jug but no glasses on a dining table, and our toast order wasn't taken at breakfast.

The Crown and Cushion could and should be so much better.

Booked in via Michelin site but were very disappointed to find very dated grubby looking decor, cold hotel, wobbly 4 poster, thin curtains incapable of keeping out the light ,lack of shower and front of hotel location facing the busy main road despite having booked superior room with bath & shower in quiet location. Decided to quit whilst ahead & didn't stay. No wonder the hotel was wanting our money in advance of our arrival & stay & thank heavens we didn't agree to that.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel
