“A favourite "chill-out" break”
Reviewed 13 March 2012

Have visited this lovely old Cotswolds Hotel many times for a few days "chill-out". Great location in the centre of Burford, Gateway to The Cotswolds, with hotel private parking. Nicely decorated and furnished throughout with a lovely dining room with great food (innovative but with reasonable portions) at a reasonable price. The walled garden is a feature and a little oasis of calm. We particularly like the small residents lounge stocked with plentiful books, newspapers, magazines (and a roaring open fire in Winter) where we usually relax with our after dinner coffee. The staff have always been helpful and friendly.
Tip: Look at their website to see what offers are available and quote this if booking by phone.
Would always return

Room Tip: Rooms in the main building are probably nicer than the annexe

We called here for lunch which arrived with the wrong vegetables. They arrived with the veg for another dish. Not wanting to complain we presumed the kitchen had run out. When the waiter checked with the kitchen he said they had put the wrong ones on. I said we had eaten there before & thoroughly enjoyed it. Now anyone can make a mistake but it,s how they try to put it right We weren,t expecting a free meal but all we had was a verbal apology. So we would think twice about going there again

For anyone looking for a quiet stay in a pretty Cotswold village, try The Bay Tree. Log fires, character filled rooms, good food and excellent service.

We stayed here for three February nights -- Sunday Monday and Tuesday -- for a short winter break. The room was especially comfortable (it had a half-tester bed) and the restaurant superb. I can't praise the food and the service enough and the wine list, though a little limited, was good enough. On one of the evenings, we ate in the bar and had slow-roasted duck leg -- yum! The breakfasts were also very good, offering anything you wanted.

The bar and the small library both have blazing real log fires, which make the whole place toasty warm and cosy.

The staff were all pleasant, helpful and, most importantly, cheerful. One got the impression that they definitely enjoyed working there and this all made for a happy and relaxed atmosphere.

I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Beech room is the one with the half-tester but, although it has a window, has no direct sunlight.
